One Piece and The Boys? We're eating good today!

The one piece manga first came out in 1997, having broke the world's most published manga record with over 100 compiled book volumes. The anime is insanely popular with over 1,075 episodes and counting. Hopefully Netflix give this live action up to at least 6 seasons!

Sabrina

One Piece is the most sold manga in existence and is the world's most published comic by a single author (Guiness World Record). It is also the 2nd highest selling comic in existence beating Batman, and Spiderman (Only Superman left to go). Last time I checked, it was 516 million copies sold or something like that. It is also one of the most popular animes of all time. Also sold more than Harry Potter series in terms of book sales! If you guys fancy it, you can try reading some of the manga, if the anime is too daunting for you. The manga is the best form to consume it but the anime does have some amazing soundtrack and voice acting.

They’re planning to make season 2

Another great episode! The ending is a good example of some of the changes made though. Garp being Luffy's grandfather isn't revealed until episode 313, during the 17th arc. Meanwhile the end of this one would be at episode 18 in the anime. So, very early in comparison lol. I personally don't mind that much. Garp wasn't really involved in the anime up until that episode so it naturally didn't come up - but since he's here now it would be weird if they avoided it. Plus, in both versions it was pretty much used the same way - as a gag and episode cliffhanger. (You can check out the other version here if you want: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OMYcyzK6HrI) Very excited for the next episode - I've really been enjoying the reactions where people don't know anything about One Piece haha. I know you probably wouldn't react to the anime, but it might be cool for you to react to the openings once you're done with the show! The 25th came out just a few weeks ago.

Just fyi, in the manga they didn't give any further information on Kuina's "accident", however, depending who you ask in the fandom, it's heavily implied that she committed s*icide which would've been too dark to put in the actual manga. There's also a scene in the anime where her father was the one telling her that she'll never be able to lead the dojo or become the best due to her being a girl.

more specifically, the manga states that Kuina fell down the stairs, which is a euphemism for suicide in Japan. However it could have also been intended as literal

Zorro always having problems with directions is his character. That's why he went to luffy's and the marine's direction instead of going to the hoise's direction. That's all he is, a great swordsman but always messed up when it comes to direction.

The Anime/Manga is widely considered to be (one of) the greatest series of all time and is still ongoing. It's actually the second highest selling comic of all time with more than 500 million copies sold. (Right behind superman at 600 million)

There are 3 Goated anime/manga in the world of anime/manga: Naruto, Bleach and ofc One Piece. One piece has 1092 chapters and 1057 episodes. And this live action adaptation broke the curse of live action adaptations. The cast was hand chosen by Oda-san(the creator) and they all put over 100% into bringing these beloved characters to life. The acot who plays Sanji (Taz Skylar who you'll meet in ep 5) did 8+ months of training in martial arts and culinary classes to prepare for his role and did all of his own stunts.

I've been staying up to watch this! 😁 I REALLY hope after finishing this series that you maaaybe will watch the anime. Not particularly with/for us but for your own entertainment. It's got many episodes but I promise it is worth it! One Piece is a VERY big and well known Anime and Manga and it's still ongoing. Oda (the creator) said in one interview that it took so long for a live action to be filmed because he wanted to do it the right way. And in my opinion they are nailing it so far! There are a few scenes that they changed in the series but it still works and doesn't take away too much of the original 😊 Gonna watch the last two episodes with my best friend tomorrow and I'm excited and a lil sad bc then we'll have to wait for the next season... But I still got you guys for a few more weeks to re-watch it with you 😁🙌🏻 Can't it be the next week already?! Episode 5 was just so good and I look forward to your reactions 💕

Tina

When they are first sailing out with Going Merry, they play the instrumental version of the anime's first opening 'We Are!'. Got me a little emotional, haha.

Yes, one piece is considered one of the big three animes & the greatest of all time. Netflix is truly doing an amazing job at staying faithful to the adaptation whilst being straight to the point (no fluff). Truly love one piece and the absolutely amazing world and characters..I really can’t believe it all came out of one man’s mind. If you ever consider dipping your toes in the anime you should watch a video explaining the world of One Piece for beginners 👍 other than that great reaction !

Ohh don't ruin it for them. Please don't be one of them spoilers. We want them to be surprised, anticipating, and guessing every step of the way. Don't be one of the dick.

deivid fuents

Yep! One piece is the best selling manga of all time.. it has even beaten the numbers of batman, spider man and superman from the western culture. Also the anime which has 24 years going on, has maintained its popularity for a long time. the autor Eiichiro Oda continues writting weekly chapters... the story is the same... so you are right, this is just the tiny tip of the beginning. And the cool thing is that we have gotten a lot of progression... if you could only see the estatus of luffy and the crew has right now in the story.. is insane

Bee P

Some portions of the live-action One Piece adaptation are more faithful to the manga, while others are more faithful to the anime. Certain parts of the manga are more violent than those of the anime. The plot is also altered slightly, but that is to be expected when squeezing 45 animated episodes (95 chapters of the manga) into eight live-action ones. We are currently 1,075 episodes into the animation, so yes, the adventure is just beginning! More epic story telling and characters are yet to come. Overall, as a longtime fan, I thought the live-action adaptation did a fantastic job; it captured the essence of One Piece. I'm looking forward to more seasons!

Conor Moriarty

I appreciate that diamond dave also points out how important the soundtrack of movies and shows are. Would totally welcome more reviews of that in movies!

Anna Du

Have you guys watched Znation? It’s a zombie/apocalypse series and I PERSONALLY love it just as much as TWD

Angel Zane

So the Netflix series focuses on the East Blue Saga which ultimately is just the prologue for One Piece. So yes, Oak, this is just the beginning. ^.^

Andes Eka A.

I told you guys, you’d be surprised😬

JessTellsTales

I'm so excited for next week! Episode 5 is my favorite! I know you guys will love it.

Jeff

Fun fact: The music playing when the ship is sailing out for the first time is the first opening for the anime, called We Are!

wanira 11

Next episode is my favourite of the season :D

SUNMOON

if you guys thought this was the best ep so far hooo weee 5-6-7-8 are even better

bub b

Hugo Pontgelard
>>117909528

Well Not Superman yet Superman sold 600 million copies and One piece "only " 516 million (Batman being third with 486 million) But One piece sells more every year so eventually if it doesn't end too soon it will be number 1

Ken Petrin

Cant wait to see you guys react to more one piece!

Toan Toan

Idk about you guys but I would love to live in a world with minimal fall damage lol

Me too ! The only real piece of music taken from the anime :)

KarySky

It's only getting better and better ! Season 2 has been officially announced by the manga writer, Oda. You can watch this, it's completely spoiler-free for the first season, but he drops a hint on a new character that'll come in season 2 :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJXN6MhF3js And who knows, maybe you'll shed manly tears in the upcoming episodes :P

Dora Dominguez

What exactly did I spoil? A characters name? They haven't watched the anime so I can assure they have no Idea what om talking about?

Iris

The One Piece series is one of the highest grossing franchises in history. It has grossed $20.5 Billion USD to date. For perspective, that’s more than the Lord of the Rings or James Bond series! The anime is truly one of the most globally popular and well loved shows ever for anime fans. Personally I’ve been watching the anime since 2004 when it debuted in the US as a Saturday morning cartoon :) I grew up with it so I’m very happy to see the live action series bringing in so many new fans! The live action adaptation is overall faithful to the original, with plot changes and cuts that make sense when condensing 45 anime episodes into 1 Netflix season. I hope you continue to enjoy the show!

HeartlandHunny

Regarding Kuina’s death, in the manga and anime Zoro is told that she fell down a flight of stairs, with the anime elaborating that she was going to get a whetstone to sharpen Wado Ichimonji. There was a rumor that I believe started on Reddit that in Japan “fell down the stairs” is a euphemism for suicide, but I’ve never seen anyone from Japan confirm that, so it’s been widely considered debunked. You’ll probably see someone saying that’s what happened in the comments, but it’s unlikely given that the point of her death is to be sudden, tragic, and somewhat random. It teaches Zoro that even powerful people can die in an accident, so live without fear of death and without excuses. Obviously everyone can come to their own conclusions about her death, but people will say that’s a thing in Japan, and I don’t think it is, so figured I’d give you a heads up.

HeartlandHunny

It’s gonna be really difficult waiting for the next episode! It’s my favorite.

Justin John Llanita

Out of all the reactors who watched One Piece, you guys are the BEST!!!

KarySky

I have one other video that I will share - to watch only after season 8: the cast reaction to the teaser :) they’re so wholesome :)

Shoko

fun fact: zoro has no sense of direction lol thats why he gets lost in the live action. its a running gag

Brynn Busalacchi

Yes the anime has always been popular, it's my favorite of all time for 16 years now, even if the pacing is slow sometimes. It always puts me in a good mood and the crew feels like my family and like I'm on the adventure with them. You don't understand how happy I am to see people who have never heard of it before this excited for my favorite story and characters!

CT
>>117908407

The other two include Bleach and Naruto 🙌

Amy Petty

Okay, someone's gonna have to point me to whatever episode of Fear the Walking Dead pissed 'em off. Either that or point me to the inevitable YouTube compilation of Diamond Dave and The Oak ranting about it. Because it sounds like those tangents alone will be entertaining as hell.

>>139234642

😂 so the quick version is, after season 1 & 2 the writing was awful. They had great talented actors but just poor, poor writing. It was basically a joke of itself. I'll stop there otherwise it would be a long read 😂😂

Amy Petty
>>139234642

Y'all made it further than I did. Admittedly you could argue that I primed myself to be disappointed, but I went into the series extremely skeptical that they could tell a decent story given the inherent limitations built into it by virtue of being a prequel. And it...kinda lived down to my expectations? Anyway I only made it about halfway through the first season before I decided I couldn't keep going.

Vasileios Mitsos

one piece is still going and still is the biggest most famous anime out there the anime is an adaptation of the manga which is the source material manga's are Japanese comic books and the manga is still going for 27 years the manga came out in 1997. most anime are adaptation of already existing or popular manga because they dont have to make a new story from zero and helps promote the books this way.
