I think I can tell you why Arlong induces so much rage. It's because he's realistic. His evil doesn't come from his fishman powers, but the corruption and emotional distress he inflicts on everyone he encounters. He looks for weakness and exploits it. Umbridge is almost cartoonishly "evil". In this day and age we'll be hard pressed to find a real life Umbridge without some sort of intervention from the public. Arlong on the other hand is essentially a violent politician who knows how to navigate the world. Personally I don't fear - just hate - Umbridge, the way she holds herself seems more arrogant than anything. Where as to me, Arlong moves with confidence. The difference here is that confidence can back-up their claims, which in turn creates respect and fear. Arlong is absolutely despicable on a human level - the actor really crushed this performance. I'm not sure I conveyed my thoughts perfectly, but I hope it's understandable.

Super Excited for That. One Question. Sub or Dub... I prefer the Sub, it's way better.

Dogman

Part of Nami's jobs when making maps for Arlong was to mark Marine strongholds, treasure, shortcuts etc. Also, the Grandline is largely uncharted, or maps of it are extremely rare. Any good ship needs a navigator who knows how to read maps as well as chart their own course

I agree with you on every point except the idea that Umbridge is cartoonishly evil. In my experience most people find her to be one of the more hateful villains in HP because she *is* real - many of us *do* know exactly that sort of bureaucratic evil in our daily lives, and maybe there is public intervention at some point, or maybe there isn't. But getting to Arlong - I was surprised that Quinn's reaction was to say it's because we don't know how to beat Arlong. I mean, that might be one of the things that make us worry about how to deal with him as a threat - but the hatred itself stems from the evil and abuse he dishes out, period. He's not a violent politician himself - he's the terrorist who knows how to *handle* the politicians because they're too corrupt to do their job. Arlong in fact does a fantastic job of betraying the mockery that the Marines are. Even Garp is more focused on his grandson - a boy he KNOWS is not violent or bloodthirsty in any way - than in paying attention to the real pirates which are actually hurting people.

Very valid point! I probably always just found her cartoonish because of the overuse of pink, maybe. Might also be the fact that I'm from Denmark, which is a country with very little corruption, so I find her somewhat unrealistic since I don't experience it daily.
