Hello and happy spring. I hope you all had a pleasant Easter weekend, regardless of which side of the coin you celebrate.
My Sunday was filled with a lot of family conversation and food since we split the day between my partner's folks and mine; lunch and dessert with them after they finished church and dinner and dessert later at my parent's place. Between the tasty savory meals and leftovers and the abundance of Easter candy floating around our apartment, I'm feeling happy and full and so sleepy. It's good to have days of just contentment and bliss.
This set is from my most recent session with Lauren Miller. She had a vague concept in mind and sent over a little inspirational Pinterest board for me to peruse through. We kind of winged it from there. I discovered this small discrete erotic boutique just down the road from my apartment and purchased the full body fishnet set that I'm wearing here. I paired it with this cute little black top with matching lace bottoms that my cousin got me from the sex shop that she works at in the town over. It wasn't exactly the idea I was originally going for (I wanted a sleeved full bodysuit that was more covered and opaque) but I think it turned out really well. I paired it all with my leather black combat boots from high school (they were my homecoming shoes actually). Unfortunately, the boots finally gave out during this session, but I think it was a good and memorable way to go. I kept she shoestrings for the memories. Anyway, after getting this look together in my head, I decided I wanted to try having straight, slicked back hair and wild gothic inspired makeup. The day of the shoot, my makeup experimentation took a bit longer than expected, so I didn't have enough time to really perfect my hair the way I wanted; it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, considering how hot and humid our session was... my hair kinked right back up despite the hairspray! For such a last minute look, I am so happy with how it came together and I plan to spruce up the idea and take it a different direction for some studio self-portraits soon.
Our idea for the flowers didn't entirely go as planned either (we wanted to set them on fire, but the wind was pretty strong and our zippo wasn't cooperating) but I like the ways we found to incorporate them. Kind of reminds me of my Valentine's self-portraits, but outdoors and dark and moody. Hopefully we can still revisit the burning flower idea sometime, though.
What do you think? I decided to title this set WEEDKILLER after Ashnikko's new album. The more I looked at it, the more I saw the dark black and smoky cigarettes as killing the nature around us.
A destructive force.
A landmine.
