I absolutely agree that this movie is not good. In the comics, the Phoenix is a cosmic force (Life, death, and reincarnation, in the form of a fiery bird), and not a dual personality like in X-Men 3. Also in the comics, Jean did bond with the Phoenix Force during a space mission. Outside of that, the movie did take a LOT of other liberties. Which definitely cost them the movie, but this is the most “accurate“ version of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Due to studio interference (The Disney/Fox merger AND Captain Marvel coming out in theaters), Dark Phoenix was originally written as a two-part story before 20th Century Fox decided to condense the story into 1 movie. There were parts of the movie that I did enjoy as a comic book fan... BUT overall, this movie was a failure.

Fun Fact: Dark Phoenix was supposed to have the Skrulls as the villains. Due to Captain Marvel using them as a villains in their movie, they had to go with an alternative. This was confirmed by Tye Sheridan, who played Cyclops.

At the 25 minute mark, the student with the light powers is named Dazzler. She’s a huge mutant popstar in Marvel.

I also struggled with the team dynamics in this movie. This movie is centered around Jean of course, but the X-Men are a family. Storm and Jean are supposed to be best friends. They practically see each other as sisters. Storm and Cyclops should be the primary people on the team that have Jean’s back. They are her ride-or-die’s. Both Storm and Cyclops are barely given anything to do in this movie. It’s just so disappointing. I will say that unfortunately Charles is pretty accurate to how he is in the comics. He does have good intentions, but he has done so many shady things. He is always very quick to use “the lesser of two evils” on somebody. Sometimes he’s just justified in his actions, sometimes he’s not.

As I’m watching this I’m realizing that I never actually finished this movie the first and only time around lmaoo. I cut it off around the point where Raven dies because I was like this is ridiculous. Now I see my instincts were right 😂

I just watched your reaction to Apocalypse and then this and it was like whiplash with the movie’s writing… I wonder what changes the writing/creative team must’ve between those movies because it didn’t feel the same at all
