the fact that men in business are taught to do the "princess" shake (woman's hand down, man's holding the woman's fingers) is infuriating. and when i go in for a real handshake men seem to be offput as if they werent expecting a real grip. insane.

Oh yeah, those Chinese handshakes go on awkwardly long, like you're there for a photo op or something. And there is actual shaking. Like they're simultaneously trying to shake you loose and also not let you go. But also not firm. All-around do not like.

As a woman living in France, a handshake is my preferred greeting whether professional or personal because the local greeting here is “the three cheek-kiss” shuffle, which I hate hate hate. Since they usually know I’m a foreigner, I can usually jump to a handshake instead without being considered rude.
