This topic sounds especially dark.

Sylvie Seeker

I do expect they'll get some dark humor out of it though.

Not to be a total nerd, but there have been numerous books written on the subject, and the main the reason we call practically any old shit Art now and it makes ludicrous amounts of money is because the CIA spent hundreds of millions of dollars during the Cold War promoting it as an alternative to the then more popular Artistic Realism movement that followed WW2 which they considered essentially Communist Propaganda (ironic, as arguably the major influence on the American post War Art scene they promoted to counter it was Picasso, who was an actual member of the Communist Party), as having people actually objectively consider the reality of their lives and conditions wouldn't work out well for a Capitalist system that exists to fuck over the majority in favour of enriching a tiny minority (who also coincidentally were the very people making obscene amounts of money buying and selling the types of Art they were promoting). And I say this as someone who studied Fine and Modern Art at University and who actually likes a fair amount of modern and abstract Art - to reference Picasso again, Guernica is one of the great masterpieces of 20th century Art. It's also the same CIA programs that promoted the American Literary Realism movement and was *probably* the origin of the "Show, don't tell" writing advice popularised during the same period.

You forgot about the money laundering aspect, as well as rich people dick-waving.

I've been reading legacy of ashes and the CIA is just weird and incompetent so much of the time.
