Galloping girdy is legendary! We went over the whole thing with lots of short movies from multiple points in its short life in one of my engineering classes and I just cant get over people intentionally driving onto that bridge. Why would you look at a bridge doing that and think, yep, this is fine?!

It's really wild. I totally get why the replacement bridge deck is so much deeper after driving over it. Even knowing it's fine, I still thought about it.

Noah was absolutely right about the bridge stuff, though. That kind of information was included in a college elective I took from the current Washington State Bridge Engineer called, brace yourself, Bridge Design. Do the I-90 floating bridge sinking sometime. I learned about it while I was doing construction inspection on the standing portion of the new 520 bridge in Seattle.
