It’s been 917 days since my last cigarette. I smoked off and on for 25 years, starting when I was 9. Everyone in my family smoked and it was just around. My son told me I was going to die and I listened because I wanted him to know that his voice matters to me. I found the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center and made an appointment. They provide counseling, patches, lozenges, gum, and I didn’t pay for any of it. I told my family so I would have accountability for myself and so my smoker family members would not smoke around me. My sister followed me in using the OTRC to quit a few weeks later. If anyone is in Oklahoma please know that they even mailed me the patches when everything shut down and I had phone call counselors if I struggled. Noah and Lucinda did it and we can live forever now! Since tobacco is the only thing that would kill me apparently. My kid is adorable sometimes. Also, my new habit is crochet, which I picked up to keep my hands busy and yarn is more fun than sitting in the heat of summer and smelling terrible

Back in 1983, my father decided that he'd quit smoking. As in, he was no longer a smoker. Never smoked again, as doing so would be to admit that he was wrong about not being a smoker.

Why? I thought he was vegan for ethical reasons, not because he didn't like the taste of animal products.
