A common misconception is a viewpoint or factoid that is often accepted as true but which is actually false. They generally arise from conventional wisdom (such as old wives' tales), stereotypes, superstitions, fallacies, a misunderstanding of science, or the popularization of pseudoscience. Some common misconceptions are also considered to be urban legends, and they are often involved in moral panics.

As soon as I was told to spit on a broom, I disavowed any old wives tales lol. In the south if someone sweeps a broom over your feet...or maybe it's the one sweeping, i forget...its bad luck to not spit on the broom. (Ikr)

You know, if you guys are ever scratching for material, you ought to look up Yukio Mishima. That looks like quite a ride.

Edit: I teach a university level human sexuality course. 2 questions I've had: Can you use soda as a spermacide? (The answer is no) Is sex in a pool protective because the chlorine will kill the sperm? (Answer is also no) Also, banana popsicles, now and later, and taffy is the best!

It's actually a common misconception that the red fluid from a steak is blood. It's just water and myoglobin from the muscle fibers.

The flight 93 shootdown myth always drives me crazy cause the conspiracy is disproven by just knowing a tiny bit about how planes are shot down. (the attacking plane wouldn't be seen from the ground) But I guess how little conspiracy theorists need to know about the world to believe what they do is the only thing they have in common.

for a moment at the end I thought you were discribing good spermicides.

Re: Racism in American Sign Language. I live in a city with a high Deaf population. Most of the suburb signs are just initialisms (Fairport = FP), but the sign for Brighton, a largely Jewish town, is the letter B tracing the outline of a large, hooked nose. I must've seen it a dozen times before I made the connection.

Fun fact: you can reliably assume that words in use before 1900 or so were not derived from acronyms, because acronyms weren't readily understood until literacy was widespread.

What’s really poetic about Heath’s last joke regarding Flight 93 on 9/11 was that the statement, “Let’s roll” is attributed to San Francisco resident, gay man, and rugby player Mark Bingham. His heroism is celebrated every two years in an international rugby tournament of gay and inclusive teams. The tournament is the LARGEST RUGBY TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD and has led to two of the most painful post tournament recovery periods of my entire life - including right now. Cheers, Heath.

Part of the reason Oreoes started out selling Hydrox was the introduction of Hersey Chocolate to the recipe. Nabisco pretty much stole the cookie design from Hydrox and there was a whole lawsuit but long story short Hyrox stayed a float bc they were kosher.
