"Tried something new while doing reports for school. So many reports, so boring. So this is one of the things I did, back to the reports."
If you read my last 2014 picture post, you'll see I mentioned the homework being boring. I'm glad past koor just outright said that LOL
Anywho, I don't draw landscapes that much because I'm very terrible at them, they one of my favorite types of artworks to view! So koor starting out with them makes a lot of sense. This was 4-ish months into drawing. All those blades of grass were individual strokes of 3 I believe, needless to that did not stick in my current style of artwork.
I also tried to do this without starting with lines, which is why the anatomy of old koor's face is uh... a girthy L ruler...
I do think I learned from my past darkness picture mistake and figured out how colors are read within context. Context meaning what colors are around the primary color you're focusing on. Grass is green because it needs to collect sunlight, howevr depending on the grass it may actually be yellow green or just a green-ish yellow. We'd classify this as being green though because the sun light is what makes it more yellow. Also there's the sky which can make it bluer like in it's shadows. At night there is no sunlight so grass will actually become a cyan or blue color. Which is how in old pokemon games the grass turning blue at night makes a lot of sense and still feels "green"
You can see Koor learning this lesson via the fire that is using a green/yellow green combo, and the moon lit grass being blue and cyan with some de-saturation towards the back.
Pretty cool huh! If you're an artist/to-be artist, you should check people's old works. It can show you a lot about their thought process. This piece is actually a really good example of that. Cause you can also see that I didn't know how the fuck to deal with water nor did I learn how to do the grass color theory with old koor's fur LOL
