I've always really liked snow. I also like the idea of mysterious places to explore. It's one of the reasons I like snow biomes with caves in minecraft is a fav of mine

I didn't have books like Molly Bang's "Picture This", however I was looking into how shapes affect a picture. Half of painting is just trying to find shapes with value rather than lines after all. Thus trying to find a good composition for them is just a natural progression for painting. The space to the left is more clustered as the right is more open. The foreground trunk goes down like a will because English readers read right to left. The central focus is the black/muddy teal void. I was being deliberate about my choices here although again, without Bang's book I wasn't actually that clear on the concept. People explain the concept a lot but in ways that are really unclear or in that "you gotta feel" sort of way that I despise with a passion

The story here, if I remember correctly, is someone stumbling across a igloo castle and walking inside. Which is why there's the tower in the background. Birch Trees absolutely came from minecraft, which is why I mentioned it earlier lol. I have seen birch trees irl but like... minecraft is the main reason I think of them... I'm sure I wanted to make a cage but thought "an igloo would be more interesting and thematically correct to find" but also drawing bricks is uhhhhhhhhh... is a aspect I dropped very quickly is is why the bricks at the bottom right turn into squigglez toward the top left
