All the shitty spelling combined with the 30 authors notes per chapter, it's really remarkable that they've kept going for this long, you just can't help but respect it Btw Dans ability to flawlessly read all the misspellings and actually pronounce them "correctly" without slowing down or losing track of the story is really impressive

I definitely didn't spend enough time to have a solid knowledge, but the little searching I did brought up a few different people claiming to be the authors and claiming they wrote it as a "parody" of other fan fics at the time. God I truly hope it isn't a joke, it's so much more magical that way.

If you wanna see someone dig WAY too deep into the lore of My Immortal, I recommend "STRANGE AEONS" on youtube, she did a whole deep dig trying to find the truth of it all, it's an absolutely fascinating video imo.

It's my (limited and uneducated) understanding that Willow is the authors insert of Raven(?), the irl friend of hers who is the editor mentioned in authors notes sometimes. They had some sort of falling out, I think, during the process of writing (or maybe before writing?) chapter 16, and the author rage killed her insert over it. And then they made up in time for chapter 17, and she kind of just... retconned it without mentioning it. That's my interpretation of events though.

The milk one reads like a writing warmup before they write a Paradise Lost and I love it Wordy fanfic staple. It all reads like this and there’s something oddly charming about it. It’s always Kinda horny “It broke me down.” “It’s one of those stories that turns you as a person.” The secret life every person has, of getting kinda horny from drinking a 2am glass of milk Now who’s gonna write about a prep named Maya Mortal “I’m nut updating” so was Mario I feel bad for laughing so much about the long pause right after “the fat guy who killed Cedric” “I really gotta hand it to this author” no the fuck you don’t 😂 allow children the means to be unironically shitty. There upside to this is it’s been enshrined in the history of western canon, that’s enough. I do think it should be lowkey studied how much jkkkr failed when making Nazis and Nazi youth to convince an audience let alone herself that she comprehends there’s anything wrong with that. The My Immortal author frankly made Draco nicer, and that fascinates me. … I don’t miss the era of girlhood where it was like, simultaneously being aware that you’re hunted by older men & being conditioned to think that’s enviable and if you don’t experience it it’s a character flaw Voldemort’s classic knife.
