Alpha Progress Update: A Mini-Interview with Dizir (Patreon)
Content
What are you working on right now?
Dizir:
Right now, we’re working not only on the first part, but on the next act as well.
We ended up with a lot of Stille backgrounds. We’re also trying to come up with a decent pathfinding puzzle.
What has been the most interesting thing to work on?
Dizir:
The most interesting thing has been working on Stille, because every background is a mindfuck. They’re tense, too, and I like that.
Also, there’s some new mechanic every time.
Why the art specifically?
Dizir:
Because it always comes with some kind of feature. Like moving through the forest in Chapter One, or locations changing in Chapter Two. So there are always some weird, non-standard bugs because of that.
And what’s the most tedious part?
Dizir:
Converting files, sorting textures into groups, and stuff like that.
What was the easiest thing to put together?
Dizir:
The wooden horse background. No-brainer.
And Enigma Emporium, of course. Also the Fire Worshippers’ altar with the distant view.
Which character do you like the most right now?
Dizir:
Bo! And Lentyayka is really great too.
Out of the current ones, I’d probably put my money on Kerv. I like his permanently annoyed face.
Were there any unusual bugs?
Dizir:
So far, the weirdest bugs were when the background moved at the wrong speed and completely scrolled through on large locations.
And also when, instead of the rope placeholder, I got a random sprite — some stretched-out piece of Wander.
No screenshots, sadly.
What’s the plan now?
Dizir:
I’m planning to finish the build.
What’s slowing me down is my own lack of organization. What I’m waiting for is the quest dialogue with the figurines or the Fire Worshippers’ altar, plus Mira’s dialogues about the ropes on levels one and zero.
I think we’ll release this part of the act in about a week, and then the remaining part about two weeks after that. With placeholders, but everything will be there.
