You can only find this peculiar plant in Latori.

Crow's Cotton grows well in semi-shade or shade, in moisture areas. It seems to be hiding unseen among the other plants, and before forming its fruits, it appears to be a completely ordinary shrub. But as soon as the "boxes" grow, Cotton starts producing a sound - thin squeak, similar to the cries of nestlings. The Cotton lures adult birds (usually crows) with this sound, deceiving them and forcing them to feed the voracious fruits until they grow big, hiding soft cotton threads inside them.

The Crow's Cotton makes a beautiful and durable yarn, and the seeds are good for making the oil suitable for salads and cooking. But unfortunately, there are aggressive crows or other birds near the bush, protecting it from enemies, as if it were their offspring.

Utterly alien but somehow seemingly plausible!

Neat to see! I remember an older map of Shang-La showing a major city in Beyleria being called Crowbeans. Any history with the name there?

lingrimm

That's really nice that you recall it! Yes, this plant and Beylerian city are sharing the same name, because Crow's beans was an important trade resource for Beyleria back in time. The name of the city is a reminder about trade relations and a fragile (semi-)union between Beyleria and Latori.

Very cool concept of a plant that has its own adaptation to allure crows to it. Pretty unique in that it uses sound to attract crows instead of colors or smell.
