This week I'm headed to Indianapolis for GenCon!

I attended GenCon a lot in an earlier era, including exactly one time in Wisconsin before it moved to Indy. But living in southern Indiana at the time as I did, GenCon became a fixture of my summers in high school through college. Sometimes I'd be working (running Matrix Games for Chris Engle or selling board games for the Game Preserve, the IN-based chain I worked for through college) and sometimes I'd just be there to take in the sheer geekery.

There were at least a couple of GenCons where basically all I did was play in Legend of the Five Rings tournaments and walk the exhibit hall. I went a few times as an author and publishing professional, including one year where my sister came up for the weekend to help me run a booth for Angry Robot Books in the Author's Alley.

I went last year during the latter part of the Daggerheart open beta after having missed a few years, and the con was noticeably much bigger than even the large crowds I'd gotten used to in the 2010s. And not only was the con bigger, but I found that my status within the field was different. There was a lot of attention on and interest in Daggerheart last year, and I have to expect that this year that difference will only increase. I'm not attending for Darrington Press and not booked for any media while I'm at the con, but I expect DH will be the topic of many of my discussions or meetings at the con, from chatting with players to discussing potential projects with other creators and publishers.

If you'll be at GenCon as well, you can see me on these panels in the GenCon Writer's Symposium and I'd love to say hello after the panel if you want to chat.
Beyond those panels, you're welcome to say hi if you see me wandering the halls or in the dealer hall, given a couple of caveats:
1) If I'm walking like a Terminator traversing the streets of NYC, I am probably on my way somewhere and may not be able to stop.
2) If I'm already talking with someone else, I may not have the bandwidth to expand the conversation (again, overwhelm).

This week I'll set the shorter video on environments to public, but I don't expect to do a new stream while I'm at the con. There's some chance I'll do something from my hotel room or record some bits walking the con floor, but I can't make any guarantees, as GenCon is really overwhelming and I need to make sure to give myself breaks and downtime so I don't get totally overwhelmed. And, because last year, I came home and immediately got sick with COVID (aka I caught it at the con). I got a booster a couple of weeks ago to maximize my immunity, but also I'm going to do very diligently not eat in the con center or take my mask off in the dealer hall if it can be at all avoided. Ideally, I don't get sick and I can come home, recover for a day or two, and then dive directly into my plans to write & publish new Daggerheart-compatible material through my Patreon here and for projects like Incredible Creatures (Just under 24 hours to go!).
