WIP Preview - Codename: Bastion (Patreon)

As often happens when I go to a convention, I came back with the seed of an idea and lots of excitement for developing it. I'd already been thinking about "What would I need to do to D&D Fantasy for it to be interesting to me?" I've played a ton of traditional D&D-style fantasy and if I was going to develop a whole setting with the intent of publishing it as a 5e setting book/adventure series/etc., I wanted to find an angle that both set it apart and fueled my interest.
Enter Codename: Bastion. This is a working title, just so I have something to use to name my files while I work on it.
Today, I spent most of the morning working on that idea, but it'll take a fair bit more before I can do something with it. I could see this becoming a stream series on Speculate or maybe a module I run on StartPlaying.Games, but we'll see.
A world where dragons and necromancers rule nearly everything, save for a small fledgling democracy that's barely holding on to autonomy.
OR - "In which I get my anticapitalist paws on heroic fantasy."
Venture into the lands ruled through fear and obedience to the nation-businesses or run on necromantic labor to smash the towers that siphon people's natural magical ability – all so the dragons and necromancers can concentrate that magical power. Will you raise your hands to the wealthy, even though you're outnumbered a thousand to one?
Foment rebellion and help people shatter their chains. With, like, Fireball and Dispel Magic and Divine Smites and stuff.
Five major truths about this world:
1) Dragons and their sycophants rule 2/3 of the world.
2) Necromantic powers (Liches, Arch-necromancers, etc.) rule most of the rest.
3) Everyone has magic, it's just being stolen.
4) One nation has broken free and sent a signal to the world, but they're on the edge of annihilation.
5) Your party can turn the tide of history by ensuring that the revolution spreads rather than being snuffed out.
