Star Trek: Continues Episode 2 - "Lolani" - Full Reaction

Comments

Mark Gosine

Wow. Great episode. This is distilled Trek at its finest. Note that, I believe it was the Startfleet admiral, was also a scifi veteran. She played Wilma in the 70's show Buck Rogers. Everyone, put in a great performance. I forget that I'm not watching the original TOS; that's saying something. Loved the hulk as a kid. Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Been wanting to rewatch those; maybe they also stood the test of time.

Just so you know, Woolly was written by a acquaintance/friend, Carrie Vaughn. She is a fantastic writer and, a better teacher. She is also a fantastic person. (No spoilers) Going back to the episode, The point behind the point was that in the real world today there is slavery going on, every bit as evil as what was shown. The Fall of Rome was every bit as much about the Federation and it's failure to live up to it's principals as it was about Orion. It was every bit as much about the United States as it was the Federation. We are living this episode today. We are those Federation citizens oblivious to the horrors of the world.

Glad you liked This one also, Bunny. Don't forget Erin Gray, the Star Fleet admiral. She was Col. Wilma Deering in Buck Rodgers tv show (Yep a BIG crush of mine. LOL. ).

Awesome reaction! I knew you'd love it! It gets better!

Bunny... Take some advice from Kermit The Frog... "It's not easy being green." apparently.

Carlos Stevens

Ok, MAJOR breach of cannon. Orion was one of the founding members of The Federation... Indeed, if you examine Federation Logo, one of the 3 bright stars is Orion.

Carlos Stevens

The three founding members of Star Fleet were Earth, Vulcan and... Orion.

Carlos Stevens

Ok correction... apparently the three founding members were Earth, Vulcan and Andoria. Tellar Prime (aka the Tellerites) was the 4th. I stand corrected.

Carlos Stevens

Don't forget...Captain Kirk was able to resist the Dolan of Elas. Dedication to duty is a real thing.

Carlos Stevens

Wow... this episode was good enough to be considered cannon. And yes.. .that was indeed Lou Ferrigno.

Carlos Stevens

LOL Bunny doesn't know who Lou Ferrigno was... Bunny, you better be watching yourself some The Incredible Hulk episodes from the '80s. Major classic stuff.

Carlos Stevens

"Mr. McGee... don't make me angry... You wouldn't like me when I'm angry..."

Great reacts bunny! I've always been a fan of the Orion slave girl character; I regarded it as a stage name, not that the women were chattel. Cute the mansplanation about Orion men enslaving the women as revenge. Bunny would look great in a photo shoot in one of the dancing outfits and I hope she will consider it, w/wo the green paint. The Starfleet HQ can be pretty ineffectual but going full Dredd Scott takes smore unboxing, if they're (Orion) a major ally in a war, like Stalin, with the Klingons, maybe they put the horrible human rights on the back burner for now. Otherwise Orion needs to get its act together.

Still struggling to synch up Highlander, but ill get to this episode!!

Yes, you should definitely do a reaction to the Hulk tv series. Greatest superhero series ever made.

I'm very late to post my thoughts, as I was in surgery on Friday and finally felt well enough to watch this. I agree with you Bunny -- great episode. I've really been impressed by the quality of these episodes despite not being 'official'. Yes, the first episode was in 4:3 format as well, like the original show. And I feel like this was an episode that COULD have aired in the 60's, since they also tackled some thorny issues then. (putting on my historian hat). Slaves DID gradually gain more and more rights under the Roman republic and Empire over the years, failed revolts aside. The Romans actually treated their slaves BETTER then many other ancient civilizations. As with any slave owning society, some slaves were treated very well and some were not. I don't think slavery was a principal cause of the fall of the Roman Empire, but it WAS a factor, as Rome depended on a steady supply of them to keep their Empire going. Finally, I totally agree it's a hard situation Kirk found himself in. The Federation has no ability to tell Orion how to do things since they are a neutral world, but you wish that you could do something to help all of those poor girls. She died as a martyr for her people.

So I know this was a hard episode for you to watch, well done you, I knew you’d like these shows, show them the respect as you always have. Glad chat has already alerted you to Lou & The Hulk, the irony here is Lou being green again, This could be his first speck role as he just granted most of the time as the Hulk. The Commodore Grey is also another famous actor , Erin Gray played Wilma Deering in Buck Rodger’s in the 25th Century, who I’ve had the pleasure to meet. The next STC episode is my favourite,

Killing me to not spoil the future. Another strong episode from this bunch. These fans are DEDICATED. I watched it with Bunnytails and felt the story with her. i met Lou Ferrigno once, he was great. Lots to unpack, and plenty of themes TOS was great at: injustice, compassion, empathy, defiance. My favorite scene from all of Star Trek is in Balance of Terror when Kirk comforts Angela Martine after her fiancé Tomlinson dies. He walks through the corridors, shaken, then resolves himself to carry on for both of them.

In my TTRPG campaign, I have an NPC who is Lolani's grand niece. She's the Navigator for the USS Excalibur. Her rank and name are Lieutenant Junior Grade Lolani Ruddah.

MertzRocks

Exactly. The love of Kirk's life is the Enterprise, and no one will make him forget it.
