Star Trek: Continues Episode 3 - "Fairest of them All" - Full Reaction

Comments

Greg

Once again I really enjoyed this episode. Like you, Bunny, I enjoy seeing sequels to popular episodes and things, and 'Mirror, Mirror' is one of my favorite TOS episodes. The Mirror Universe is such a rich vain to tap from also, it's a favorite of mine. Knowing what's to come with that setting, I'll just say this episode fits GREAT into the timeline in helping to fill in the pieces and explain what happened on the ISS Enterprise after Kirk and the others returned and Spock staged his act of rebellion. I've played a number of games that are also are set in, or dealt with, the Mirror Universe (such as Shattered Universe, a PS2 game that features Walter Koening and George Takai) and read some books about it as well, so I also share your love for this setting. The quality of this fan show has REALLY surprised me. I'll just say I totally understand people who don't want to watch this, either cause they just can't accept anything that is not canon or cause they can't separate the artwork from the troublesome reports of who made it. However, if you can put those things aside -- and I won't blame anyone who chooses not to -- this is a REALLY well done love letter to the original Star Trek and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I've been waiting to get to this episode. I've re-watched this one more than the others. It goes beyond being a sequel. It's more lime we hit an intermission at the end of the TOS episode, then contnue on here. Vic Mignogna wrote the story, and gives us a good "what next?" telling of events. As you noted, this one was only 40 minutes long but they packed alot into that time. The opening scene is a shot for shot, word for word copy of the original to get us started. Check out the side by side comparison. https://youtu.be/Syt0llURkdo?si=ooP91YcimZl-uQax

Can't wait for next week's reaction. I think you're going to like The White Iris. Just keep a tissue handy.... no spoilers.

Great episode! Thanks bunny! Kind of reminds me of the Mutiny on the Bounty, especially when they send Kirk/Bligh off in a shuttle. Good stuff.

Mark Chrisco

Fun fact. The shuttlecraft Galileo was the actual prop that appeared in the original series, borrowed for this episode from private ownership.

Mark Gosine

Great sequel to the Mirror Mirror episode. Note the voice of the computer in this episode is a Trek alumnus, Micheal Dorn (Worf).

Mark Gosine

Greg, is this the first watch for you also? From your last paragraph, it appears so. If so, welcome to the STC ride. Enjoy.

Greg

Yeah, first watch, I never paid much attention to the fan made stuff like this.

Stephen Marino

A few random things. First off, I love how the ship was orbiting the planet in the wrong direction in this episode. It bothered me a small bit that they did not rename the shuttle. Then again, they could not deface the prop. Thirdly, I think you should consider watching the J.J. Abrams movies before the TOS movies. They take place in the same time as TOS. They actually start before Kirk was born. There are only three of them. Perhaps you could make them a bonus movie night or something. They are better than many people think. They are flawed, but they are better than the later TOS movies.

Gary Brown

Next episode, “The White Iris”, is Vic’s favorite episode because he says it reveals Kirk’s vulnerabilities.

I haven't seen them all yet, but White Iris is in my top 2 or 3 so far!

bunnytails

Oh, I never even noticed the wrong-way orbit! Very cool!

bunnytails

I've seen it and.. well. Make sure YOU keep your tissue handy as well!

JoeyVettes

I like the musical cues from each episode as each woman of the past was featured.

bunnytails

Thanks for sharing the side by side! That is awesome!

RebRox65

This was one of my personal favourites, the opening sequence was an exact match, word for word to the end of the original ‘ mirror, Mirror’ episode, just in case you missed it. Onwards we trek to next one ☝️

⚠️ Not getting any sound or picture.

Someone linked me to the side by side video. It's very impressive! I love it :)

I can’t reveal future Mirror Universe without spoiling. This is agony. With no respect, the JJ Abrams Treks are not Star Trek. Anymore than Alex Kurtzman Treks are Star Trek. All written and directed by people who can’t comprehend what Star Trek is actually about. Don’t waste your time. Not sure I’ve ever seen “Fairest” before, and it had some good moments, just seemed a little rushed for what was happening. I’m trying to catch up with your watchalongs! Infinite Diversity Infinite Combination!
