Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Hope you're prepared to laugh your bunnytails off, B😆 And probably tear up a little at the end lol. Can't watch right away unfortunately though😕

Summer

Such a great movie

Skyman's Follies

The Motion Picture is fantastic hard-sci-fi(ish), Wrath of Kahn is an epic revenge/tragedy, Search for Spock is dramatically charged soul searching and now, Voyage Home, while wonderfully dancing on the fringes of farcical comedy, imho, finally finds our characters back to their TOS roots. No, nobody dies(at least on screen). No ships exploding (except in the past) and no over the top, crazed villain. Just Star Trek at its roots and, for me, at its best: commenting on current issues of the day with gloriously wild stories told through the lens of people we wish were real. As with all good TOS shows, it starts with a confounding mystery and ends on a “ah-ha… of course !” Just like the Horta before it, the Probe seems to seek protection of its own from the villain Star Trek most often had at the heart of its stories: miscommunication and, as explicitly stated in the film, one’s own short sightedness. The final joy of Spock and Sarek’s reconciliation followed a minute later by the revelation of the new Enterprise is nothing short of blissful and, if the movies had ended right here, I would have been more than happy. Yes, the next two are cherries on the top (yes, even you Final Frontier) but imho, this was the apex, and what Star Trek was all about. Thanks for all the amazing reactions, Bunny. 🖖

James

awesome can’t wait

James

I think she is always ready for that I think evil dead made her laugh the hardest 🤣

Mark Chrisco

Remember, in the beginning, Spock didn't understand the question, "How do you feel?" The message to his mother, "I feel fine." was letting her know he was completely back to normal and well. A subtle moment most miss.

bunnytails

Yes, a very nice moment. Though.. not to speak too far ahead, but ST5 felt like a step back to me with regards to Spock. It was odd.

Paul Hess

My new favorite saying instead of "There be whales here!" is "Yeah Bob, F- Off Bob!" 😂😂

Mike Yocom

My head canon is that it was one of the Tellarites that called the Klingon ambassador a pompous ass.

Matthew Evangelista

Hey April, have you already watched Star Trek 5? Can't wait for your reaction video to that one if you have. If we are indeed skipping over watching ST5 on here, we definitely need to watch ST6. For me, 6 has some sentimental meaning because it was the first (and only) ST movie I ever saw in theaters. I went with my dad when I was around 10 years old. As for this movie, all I can say is... "NOT NOW MADELINE!" Also I'm typing this message on a keyboard. How quaint. What a swell movie and movie evening/night this was! Thank you so much for that.

James

Bunny: “ I like this I like this a lot” we have seen all these many times but great watching with you. Lol F. You Bob! 🤣 Scotty: “Keyboard!, how quaint!” I hope it was summer but how cold was that water? Glad they didn’t get hypothermia. Thought you were going to comment that the probe looks a giant trashcan lol. loved your reaction to the enterprise A

William Terry

Thanks bunny for your thoughtful comments! You caught the major set pieces but I most enjoyed cute Gillian and her truck getting into an alien abduction situation, the rural setting (in downtown San Francisco) and UFO sightings. Star Trek was great at recreating interesting classic science fiction scenes, like vr in "Spector of the Gun." My favorite ST:TOS episode, 'Miri", takes a post-apocalypse scene from b&w series The Twilight Zone or Outer Limits, does it in color and then adds a twist of a mutant, looking like a nuclear bomb survivor, mourning his wrecked bicycle. Nimoy does an incredible job and pays tribute to the behind the camera makers of Star Trek. The entire movie is one very well done meme after the other. Very much appreciated the comic elements, so important to "Objective: Earth" and "Tomorrow is Yesterday". Along with "City on the Edge of Forever" they have lots of humor in the time warp episodes, but I can't think of a single comic bit in the federation, not on board the Enterprise, except for Finnegan (!). Maybe Cogley, Kirk's lawyer in "Court Martial".

Paul Hess

@William I’m curious what the Objective:Earth comment relates to? I’m not familiar with that.

Skyman's Follies

probably referring to “Assignment Earth”

Mark Gosine

Watched this in the theater on a date night, with my now wife. Great memories, and a great surprise change of tone from the previous three. But, not out of keeping with the Trek universe. Perfect. TWOK and TVH are my favorites. Always a joy to watch. TSFS we got Spock back, and here we get the Enterprise back. If I ever need to grow a new kidney, I'm calling Doc McCoy!

James

Forgot that Kirk says “No, I’m from Iowa I only work in outer space” Shatner was in Ms Congenialty as a host he said in that one “I’m from Iowa”

Greg

She said she watched ST 5 last weekend (after she had seen ST 4 as she's seeing the movies in order). Expect a reaction here in the coming weeks. ST 6 will be a Discord movie night though.

William Terry

Sorry I was misthinking "Operation: Annihilate" while the producers of ST:TOS were more likely to use a word beginning with "A". That said, it was barely an assignment, observing a Dr Strangelove historical incident and they nearly manage to destroy the world anyway.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I think one of my favourite things about this movie isn't just the humour but that the humour is used to get us out of the storytelling jams that would otherwise be focal to the plot. Need a way to explain away the timey-wimey consequences, make a joke about it! It's something of a long-standing trope in tv and movie story writing and I am always here for it. As fans I often push back at the idea we need all the canon to line up when in real time the writers are trying to solve problems and take us on the journey they want to take us on. "Because it's a movie" is a perfectly acceptable answer to these things and this trope and this movie are kinda the total embodiment of that idea. It's fun and satisfying to me on multiple levels.

John DiGiantomasso

So the "Sausalito Cetacian Institute" is really the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey. It is a must-see if you are ever in the SF area. The "whale tank" in the back is really a California Sea Otter play zone in resl life. Visited there just after the movie release; they had displays about the film and the remote-control fake whales used in the movie.

Summer

Star Trek! Star Trek! As one who lives near the San Francisco area the alameda reference is hilarious and we regularly when fitting will say ‘across the bay, in Alameda’

bunnytails

Yeah I ended up looking it up. I actually went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium a couple times as a kid!

bunnytails

I used to go there a lot with my family when I was younger, but haven’t been in a long while!

Mark Gosine

So, question. Yes, it's burning. Is it the Spanish pronunciation? Ala -mā (long a) - da. Or did Chekov say it wrong with a long ē? It seems it is a long e, but why. Is it not of Spanish origin?

Summer

Technically he pronounced it right but too slowly, Uhura and the woman on the street were closer

Joshua Langweil

I love your reactions! I never teared up at the end of Voyage Home until watching it with you! Enterprise-A time!

Summer

Sorry to comment again but I was watching again and heard you ask if whale extinction was a big deal, maybe in the adult world it was, some might protest with signs or shirts saying to save the whales. However I was in elementary school and in classes and kids tv endangered animals was a big topic being pressed

David Wayne Fox

Damn, I've never cried so much watching this movie as I did with you! I'm enjoying your journey. I love how this movie actually raised awareness of the problem with whaling and actually did help to save the whales!

David Wayne Fox

It's a great Aquarium... I visited it a few years after the film.

bunnytails

I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying!

Grey Invader

The Big Tootsie Roll in the Sky episode. Save the whales! Star Trek IV always brings a big smile to my face. I knew Bunny would love this one, too. My friends, we've come Home.

Jeremy Parks

When you lost it at seeing the Enterprise-A, I teared up like a baby. 52-year-old grown ass man sucking breath and wiping tears. I love this movie so much and I am overjoyed that you had the same response! First post!!

ChrisP

Star Trek The Next Generation is set 80 years on from the original series.

bunnytails

"The Federation-Klingon peace process is worthy of a series of its own." I would love to see something like this!

Trilogian

I was a junior in high school when Voyage Home came out. Dunno how many times I saw it in the theater. Treks 2, 3, and 4 make a very interesting trilogy. Not even sure they planned it that way, but each movie builds on the previous one! Voyage Home resets the universe very nicely after some grim events.

George N

I said everything I needed to say about this reaction 2 years ago on YT. Loved the full reaction! During the promotion of this movie, Shatner made what became an infamous Saturday Night Live appearance. This is a great skit for, shall we say an "alternate" version of STV LOL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpPgavT5am4 This is another more infamous skit about Star Trek conventions. He got into a ton of trouble for this from Trekkies: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x81rboa
