The year is supposed to be 2364

I find most seasoms of this era of Trek rewatchable give or take it is a standard for my Trek

Summer

You ask the most rational questions Bunny

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Probably the first episode that I *really* enjoy. Where No One Has Gone Before was very enjoyable, a good "Star Trek story." But I think this one is a better "character story," a little bit of action/tension, some backstory for Picard, a chance for PS to really act etc I always have quite a bit of fun with this one

Summer

I will also give a tip (poorly) that Jen Murray was given as she started TNG, the stardates the first season start with one, the second 2 the third three, so on.

Squeesher

"Destroy the sphere." *Pew* *Boom* Picard's Brain: "Back to reality" Picard's Body: "Whoops! There goes gravity"

Squeesher

Yeah, 41XXX for first season, 42XXX for 2nd and incremental going forward. Makes it cool for the audience, but then very odd that we see in the Stargazer, the stardate for the last ship log entry Picard made before leaving was shown as 40218.3, but stated to be 9 years ago. Maybe Bok messed with it? lul

Summer

Yeah I didn’t even notice the order until Jen mentioned it despite watching the show multiple times. You explained it far better

Greg

This is one of my favorite episodes from Season One, and is (IMHO) the best episode of TNG we've seen so far. I feel this is the first episode where we REALLY get to see Patrick Stewart's acting chops. He did a great job playing Picard here, the pain he was going through, reliving the past, etc. Perhaps it just took time for him to 'get to know' the character he was playing. Also good roles for Riker, Crusher, and Troi here. This is also the most 'useful' I think Troi has been, as the writers were starting to figure out what they were doing with her. The Constellation class is seen for the first time here. It's a older class of ships, introduced after TOS ended, and (I believe?) no longer in service at all by the time that TNG airs. So what Starfleet wants to DO with the ship is beyond me. They did say a tow ship was coming to take the ship back to a Starbase. Put in a museum, maybe? And speaking about that, the Stargazer didn't SEEM damaged enough to the point that the crew had to abandon ship. Yes, there was heavy fire damage and I'm sure some key systems are destroyed or badly damaged. But she could still raise shields, go to warp, fire all weapon systems, have working sensors....I can't help but wonder if Picard and crew felt it was worse then what it was and decided leaving was the best course of action. Also about the shields -- plot holes galore there! How did the Ferengi beam back if the Stargazer had their shields up? And then one character says the ship has shields down, and then another says they just got raised? The writers missed some stuff when doing their final polish of the script here, me thinks. But considering the time pressures they were under, I guess that's understandable. My understanding of how the mind controlling orb worked was that there was a master and an amplifer. The former the Fergeni had and left it on the Stargazer bridge, the later was hidden in Picard's stuff in his room and then brought back to his cabin on the Enterprise. The range was such Picard was already feeling the effects before the meeting, but it worked much better once the orbs were in place. I also always wondered how the Ferengi Captain planned to get his revenge -- it was a long time coming, hence all of the money spent on the orbs, but how did he plan to do this? And was finding the Stargazer just dumb luck on their parts? And why did his son attack anyway? The Ferengi don't usually attack unless there is profit, and Picard said it was an ambush, so.....perhaps the Stargazer was in danger of stumbling on some operation they didn't want discovered? Speculating on my part here. But I agree, nice to see the Ferengi also getting better treatment here. One last thing I also wondered about, why did Picard take a Type 2 phaser with him over to the Stargazer? But despite all these plot holes, this is a strong episode for me -- great acting, good story, fact paced plotline, and some tense moments. Finally, there's also a running joke with fans, taken from the Picard Maneuver introduced here, for all the times that Picard is seen playing with and tugging down his uniform, that it came to be called the same thing, LOL. (I've read in a article years later the uniforms just didn't fit great for everyone, so the actors tended to fuss with it due to comfort reasons.)

Remember the Ferengi probably have the captain's medical records from the stargazer so the orbs were already attuned to his brain waves, and that why as soon as they got in range it started working.

Lots of people contributing in the episode while giving ample time for focus on Picard. I rate it acceptable, though I could have used more info on Bock's ultimate plan of revenge. All I got is Picard is supposed to f up, treat the Galaxy class starship like it was the Ferengi ship and get destroyed. Maybe if Bock had discovered the solution to the Picard Maneuver and had him try it in his ship... Bunny was glad to see the show able to portray a battle, which is essential for science fiction. The implications of the Picard Maneuver other than Data telling that he can still track the Stargazer, don't get a line. The Stargazer would be able to not only appear in two places at once, but could backtrack to its original position from the second position, opening fire from either or both. Maybe if the Enterprise could have been in more danger it would have made more of a difference, but since Star Trek battles are about not the accuracy and volume of phaser and photon torpedoes, but the shields, it's no battle. Good point about using the tractor beams, I don't know about coasting while in warp drive as Picard had them do, but good all around performance and a great reacts!

I didn’t know there was that much vitriol for “Justice”. Fortunately, I’m too old, cranky, and arrogant to care much about popular opinion 😛 This one’s pretty good. It’s got some good drama and character development for Picard. It also has a few flaws . Picard having headaches before the Stargazer appears is a bit of a plot hole, though one can, of course, come up with explanations if one is so inclined. I think the pacing is a bit slow, and some scenes could have been exwecuted a bit more deftly. Some of the fire FX really don’t hold up well. Still, for me the episode still earns a “pretty good”. It’s just an indisputable fact that Season one is a bit clunky compared to later seasons, Bunny, but you are taking these episodes as is and enjoying them for what they are which is definitely the rupight way to approach it.

Bret Kay

I'm glad you enjoyed Justice! I've also never thought of it as a bad episode. Some are better than others, but there really aren't any TNG episodes I dislike. Fingers crossed that everyone lets you watch the series expectation free. It's definitely more fun to see what you're unbiased opinions are! I love the speculation in your comments too - it reminds me of talking with friends about what we thought and what might happen as it came out each week.

hope to hear your TNG main theme acapella more often! 🎶🎶

Hopefully more really enjoyable ones coming up this season for you!

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

That comment probably didn't sound like it but I am an ardent S1/S2 defender. While there are more eps that are a little "meh" there are still some real gems to be found that make it worth it. And it's all still important groundwork for our characters.

Carlos Stevens

There's a reason, that Justice was among the most hated episodes. I almost spoiled it... BUT I KNOW HOW TO CLAMP MY DAMN MOUTH SHUT!!! Y'ALL SHUT UP! LET BUNNY ENJOY STAR TREK! I'll talk about why Justice was among the most hated at the appropriate time.

Stainless Steel Cat

A good episode. Good development of the Ferengi, backstory for Picard and a chance for Patrick Stewart to act his socks off (do Starfleet officers wear socks?). Also lots of Beverley Crusher for me to go all heart-eyes on! ;o)

Max

can Bunny ferengi dance be a tradition every ferengi episode?

Desmond

Stardates have never really made much sense, tbh. But yes, starting with TNG, they did adopt the practice detailed by Squeesher. Kind of an in-joke for the writers, I guess.

bunnytails

Ah I never noticed the uniform fiddling, but I can relate to wearing something that doesn't quite feel right. I'll keep an eye out for that :P

bunnytails

Hmm YES. Just the kind of explanation I needed, thank you!

bunnytails

It could be that I was just looking in the wrong parts of the internet. We'll see how the masses feel about Justice when it goes up on YT.

bunnytails

Praying that people don't spoil or set expectations!

bunnytails

We can go heart-eyes on her together! 😍

Mark Gosine

"I didn’t know there was that much vitriol for “Justice”. Fortunately, I’m too old, cranky, and arrogant to care much about popular opinion " Same here. No idea that there was any 'hate' on this particular episode. Complete surprise to me. I thought it was entertaining enough. The women were easy on the eyes. Even though some of the men wanted me to gouge my eyes out. NOT fit at all.

Mark Gosine

"This is one of my favorite episodes from Season One, and is (IMHO) the best episode of TNG we've seen so far." Have to disagree. Acting for Stewart was good, but something about this episode seemed forced. For me it was just OK. It might have3 been the over-the-top Ferengi gestures. Meh.

Mark Gosine

I am neutral on this episode. The Ferengi are still too 'Alien' and close to comical with exaggerated hand gestures. Picky I know, but I thought this the day I first watched it. It tasked me. It tasked me. PS pulls it out though with a 'stellar' performance.

timothy w moyer

It's just a fine episode. I enjoyed it. Along with Heart-Eyes 👀 on Beverly also, LOL. You're getting very good on the TNG music, easy on the ears 🖖 , No Vulcan Reference. Yeppers, all around good reaction.

뱀파이안젤

man, Wesley gotta be iq power level over 9000 by adulthood at the rate he's geniusing 🤓

This is one of my favorite episodes! I really liked the Stargazer Bridge Set. If memory serves, it's a redress of the Enterprise Bridge set used at the end of ST IV The Voyage Home. I was always a big fan of that Bridge style. :)

Super Sunny Sunblade

How convenient only the enemy captain took all the blame...perhaps too convenient? 😼

bunnytails

We're all picky about things from time to time. I know I can be!
