Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - Full Watch-along

I'm a fan of Conquest, having read the book and watched it in the 70s with the Go Ape show at the local Showcase Movie Theater. It holds up. It's an actual sequel, where the starring characters in the last movie return, here Cesar and Armando, so it gets better unlike Beneath where the returning characters were marginal and everybody dies. Escape is great but mostly Zira and Cornelius in the Taylor role but better setup for a sequel. There's a lot of funny bits in act 1; the ape hairdresser starts picking nits out of her customer's hair. The pack of gorillas throwing a mattress; and any time you bring a mop and a bucket into a movie it's getting into Buster Keaton territory. Like bunny, others had problems with the violence and I heard the Cesar's speech at the end was softened to make human-ape coexistance possible. Pretty heavy stuff for bunny to watch, but just one more-Bunny makes a great point that the death of the Ricardo Montalban character changes the direction of the movie, making it more dark and hopeless-I wish bunny's Patreon and YouTube followers don't get Planet of the Apes fatigue and bunny will prioritize the TV series, the cartoon series, or the next five movies. Thanks bunny!

Bunny, watching your reactions on these is not as fun as Trek and B5. Still, it's been many a year or decade since I've seen these. These later films are darker than I recall. One more to go. You'll need to finish the set. 🫣
