Doc Savage

I was expecting more from the movie considering what the game had to offer in terms of story of suspense. Granted I only played a small portion of the game over 20 years ago but still.. idk.

This was something alright. Had some good aspects but stretched a bit too long. Ending confused me, and couldn't find much discussion online sadly.

LOL both the game and movie were based on a novel of the same name. The movie wasn't based on Squaresoft's "Cinematic RPG" Parasite Eve at all either because the game in fact released 14 months after the movie first premiered in Japan. Squaresoft did their own cinematic action style for the video game version differing from the original Parasite Eve source material because after seeing how well prerendered computer animated movie cutscenes did in commercials selling titles like FF7 in the most sales record breaking numbers, they must've figured why not make a shorter game to have a higher ratio of impressive cutscenes to give players an experience more like a movie. That's why the Parasite Eve movie based only on the novel shouldn't really be compared to any visually splendid cinematic video game cutscenes by the creators of FF7 haha...

According to wikipedia on the movie vs the novel: The screenplay for the film was written ... to reorganize the non-linear approach of [the] novel ... [Movie Director] stated he was "not really happy with the circumstances I was under when I had to create [Parasite Eve] ... First of all I was forced by the producers to make it a love story. There were so many compromises I had to make that it couldn't be a true horror movie." ... [A film critic] said it "whitewashes the novel" I never read the novel which was the first novel to win the Japan Horror Novel Award as I can't read that level of kanji writing. But the movie is mainly only known outside of Japan to a subset of dedicated fans of the Parasite Eve video games as an imperfect live action version of the original source material novel. So don't feel bad about not understanding the ending because 1) The director claims the whole love story aspect was forced against his will by producers and the movie ended differently from the original novel anyway. And 2) 99% of anyone outside Japan who heard about the film to watch had prior exposure to the Parasite Eve video game story and their interest in the movie lies mainly to learn more about the original novel source material for the Parasite Eve video games. Maybe it was my bad to be the 1st to recommend watching the PE movie for your movie nights list before you ever had played the video game version. But after other fans of the games started voting for the movie too I guess it was gonna end up being watched at some point before you ever tried playing either video game sorry lol...
