All the emotional turmoil is being turned up!

This is where it all starts…

We knew this was coming and it started to unfold. This back-and-forth roller coaster of emotions that CRWBY like to bestow upon us is dangerous!…

We went from having extreme joy from last chapter to having anguish and despair like our main protagonist…

What the hell is going on?

ā€œI need coffee for my tearsā€ might be the most relatable thing you’ve said so far šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

Ruby finally broke

Dreanner95

The Afterens see the tree as a normal part of life. It seems like the tree is basically Change icarnate. The Paper Pleasers want to change, to move on. But Jaune won't let them. What we don't know is if Ascension is just part of life in this world which Jaune and team RWBY can't really comprehent because they are from another world or if there is some malicious intent somewhere. I personally think the tree is a normal part of life for the Afterens but it interacting with people of Remnant is the problem because how important individual identety is in that world compared to the Ever After.

HP

When Afterens "die" by any means, they're brought to the tree to be remade and rebirthed. The only known exception is if they're eaten by the Jabberwalker

someone pointed out elsewhere that the bees have never been more in sync since their confession while weiss is seen stumbling and struggling because she doesn't have ruby to back her up .and like it's true and it HURTS

Look. I have time stamped reactions to your reaction this week. I’m operating from my phone and Patreon is NOT allowing me to post (or edit said post) so I’m saving it all to my notes and posting it Friday when you post this reaction on YouTube. I will say, though. I surprised that YOU’RE surprised that they’ll be stuck in Ever After at least until the first chapter of Volume 10.

Your reaches aren't too far fetched, Gh0xt. My current one is that it was Alyx who was sacrificed to the tree (either willingly or not) and it was Lewis that made it back to Remnant. It would explain why the story was made into a positive tale and why Alyx was rewritten to not be such a villain. Cause that is exactly what a brother with a good heart would do for his sister in that case. After last chapter I was ecstatic for a good 4-5 days. After this chapter I quietly said "oof", closed the player and haven't watched anything else for a good 8 hours until now. It was all bound to happen. Both Jaune and Ruby had to break. The story for each was leading to it. Jaune has held guilt since he sacrificed Penny and Alyx and Lewis' arrival and departure did nothing to assuage that guilt. That is why he tried so desperately to protect the Afterans. He had to feel he could protect something because after Pyrrha and then Penny our boy was not in the headspace for anything else to happen. Ruby's loss of control and subsequent depression started in Volume 7 and has only gotten worse with time. The Fall of Atlas was the catalyst, the spark that ignited the powder keg she's been sitting on and smoldering over the last 7 chapters until she finally blew. I don't know how she will find herself again (or if she ever will truly) but I have a reach that perhaps Summer will be involved. There have been so many hints to her in this volume that finding her in the Ever After might not be far-fetched. It would definitely explain why she never returned and why Salem didn't outright say "Yep, I killed her." or "I turned her into a Grimm." She kept being surprised whenever Summer was brought up in Volume 8. Anyways, I've ranted enough. Love your reaction as always. Stay strong and keep moving forward. See you next week.

Afterans go to the tree either physically, like Herb, or spiritually upon physical death. The only exception is being eaten by the Jabberwalker, which somehow disrupts the process. Upon returning to the tree an Afteran is Ascended, which acts like any other reincarnation system. Most of their memories are erased and they're given a new physical form and purpose

Honestly the more I think about it the more I’m pissed at Blake, yang and to some extension weise. Aliteral freaking mouse has figured out ruby is not ok and not herself before her own friends… just watch the mouse over the last couple episodes. .. yang had the audacity to get angry at ruby’s little outbursts? the punderstrom showed yangs ā€œbiggestā€ problem was her feelings toward Blake and not worrying about how messed up her own sister is. Ruby is not stupid and probably connected the dots on that (watch her face while they hold hands). John got angry and blamed her, Blake tried to dismiss her feelings with positivity weise.. she will allways be best girl in my eyes.. but she just didn’t notice.. they all have taken advantage of her ability to ā€œbe okā€ and repress her emotions So in ruby’s eyes she is alone and in her eyes no one gives a damn…. They all ow her a big apology.. When ruby ā€œascendsā€ and becomes the anti hero they will have no one to blame but themselves… Rant over..

Ruby was bound to fall apart eventually. But she's a god damn champion for holding out this long. All starting from when Summer went missing Ruby's been on a downward slope for at least a decade. As for where she's going? My educated guess is The Blacksmith. She immediately knew the weight Ruby had been carrying for so long after speaking with her for hardly 30 seconds. The Blacksmith's exact words were "If you change your mind, you may choose any one of these you like and set your burden down." after Ruby insisted she was fine and could handle it. Clearly she is not fine and cannot handle it. My prediction: She'll return having changed her mind and choose her mother's weapon, setting down Crescent Rose and by extension her burden as it seems it's less of a weapon she was inseparable from and more like a physical embodiment of said burden at this point. Anything could happen after that. But I think it's safe to say Ruby will not be the same following Volume 9. I'll be taking bets in the Denny's parking lot.

God, Lindsay and Mile's performances were fantastic. But I gotta give extra props to Lindsay. We've seen Jaune in a similar emotional state before, but Ruby's never gotten this kind of emotional development and I'm so glad she finally did, as much as it hurts. It makes sense too, we've seen the rest of RWBY deal with the darker aspects of their lives, but Ruby herself has just been stuck being the beacon of positivity and motivation for everyone else, so of course she's gonna have a breakdown. I was wondering if Jaune disclosed the fact that he killed Penny, or if Weiss is still the only one who knows. Based on him not fully saying it here, I'm leaning towards that bomb not having been dropped yet. If so, when it does, oooooh fuckin boy. My only concern now is, how the hell is this season finishing up in 3 episodes? The episodes have been so short so unless we're getting a couple long ones in there, I don't see how we're resolving things in a way that doesn't feel rushed.

I gotta say, WBY are seriously pissing me off so far. I understand that Ruby to them has always been this unbreakable beacon of positivity, but it's like they're berating her every time she's not immediately living up to that. The way Weiss spoke to her when she didn't get the ingredient at the market, and now when she didn't have her weapon with her, how can they not see her face and realize there's something wrong? And Jaune may have gone through some seriously awful shit, but the way he blamed Ruby for it all like she could just take it was entirely uncalled for, and aside from Weiss gently saying his name, not one of her teammates came to her defense. And THEN, when Ruby finally snaps, and YANG STEPS PROTECTIVELY IN FRONT OF BLAKE?? Like she's expecting Ruby to be a threat or something?? Her own sister! Yeah she was a little rude about the two of them confessing to each other, but she has every right to be emotionally messed up atm. I have to believe WBY will see the error in their ways after this episode. I stg if after this they're all mopey and angry, talking about Ruby being out of line or something, they're going to have to pull some serious writing gymnastics to make the team okay again in my eyes. (none of that's to say I am disliking the season, I actually really love seeing this kind of emotional development and it's good that it's making me feel things, I'm just seriously put off by how oblivious her friends and sister are being right now)

Urzu89

Agree… I kinda hope ruby goes down an ani hero arc just so they can realize what they did. Ruby may need the most character development going forward but the other 3 still need Some more interns of taking advantage of ruby

(My personal reach is Alyx has some sort of connection to Neo, but that is literally because in the intro the still of neo fades into Alyx on the beach) My personal theory for the ending of this chapter is that Ruby is going to die to Neo, Ascend, but instead of losing her memories, she will hold onto them and make it the base of her new person and purpose. In Ep 5, that cats says the ā€œsoul never truly forgetsā€ and I am certain Ruby will never forget her friends despite her current emotional state.
