Chapter 3.

Armed with four years of dance class in his memory, Dominick returned to the room Connie was in. She was practicing again.

“Hey, that's good, but it could be better,” he told her.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Did you know I took ballet and jazz when I was your age?”

“Really?”

“Would I lie to you?”

“Were you any good?”

“I thought so. Let me see you try it again?”

Dominick watched for a few seconds. This time he immediately knew what was wrong. “That was really good, but you have to do it like this. It's Kick, Step, Tap. You have to lift your leg higher when you kick...Yeah, that is better.”

As Dominick got into the routine, more and more of the memories of when he was in dance class returned to him. He was amazed at how vivid those memories felt. He knew intellectually that he hadn't done any of those things, but emotionally they felt real. He also enjoyed that he was helping Connie.

Dominick and Connie danced for quite a while before they had to quit. They both were getting tired.

Chapter 4.

By the next morning, Dominick had forgotten what Laura had done to him. As far as he knew, he had taken dance classes for four years. He didn't know that those memories had been implanted in his head.

Laura entered Dominick's room when she heard him stirring in the morning.

“Dom, I wanted to thank you for helping Connie yesterday.”

“No problem. Helping her dance brought back lots of memories.”

“Really? You ever regret giving up dance?”

“No, not really. You know how boys are.”

“I do. So, you're going to help her again?”

“Yeah, sure. There is just one thing.”

“What?”

“I'm not as flexible as I used to be. I guess I'm out of practice.”

“What do you mean?”

“When I was a kid, I could do the splits and stuff like that. Now, no way I could do it as well as then.”

“I think I can help you?”

“You can? You mean like some sort of stretching thing?”

“Not exactly. Stand up and turn around.”

Dominick who was sitting on his bed got to his feet. Laura the same way she did it the day before, rolled her fingers into a fist and then tapped Dominick's back at the base of his spine. Dominick felt a wave of energy flow through his muscles. It was an odd sensation.

“What did you do?”

“You said you couldn't do a split, try it now.”

“What?”

“Try it.”

“OK.”

Dominick stretched his right leg forward and then his left leg back. Then he got lower and lower without any pain his crotch got closer to the ground, and soon his legs were stretched out as far as possible. He was amazed. He didn't remember doing anything like this for many years. He had lost this ability as he grew older when his muscles developed in a masculine manner.

“Oh, my G... I don't believe it.”

“It isn't that you are as flexible as ever. It's as if you never stopped practicing dance.”

“But I did stop.” He knew he had but remembered that he stretched every day.

“Don't worry about it.”

Dominick was so elated that he could stretch that today he was even more enthusiastic about dancing than Connie was. He wanted to start practicing right after breakfast.

“Come on, Connie. I have more to show you.”

“Later, I'm watching Puppie Patrol.”

“When will it be over?”

“Soon.”

“When you are ready, I'll be waiting.”

Chapter 5.

Dominick's memories of his old days in dance class were coming back to him. He hadn't thought about dancing like that in a long while. Now that he believed he could perform as he had when he was younger, he was eager to try them out.

Dominick started with simple stretches, and then he got more and more limber.

“Is it over yet?” Dominick asked excitedly after being fully stretched out. He wanted to show Connie what he could do under the guise of teaching her how to dance.

“OK, OK. Let me get dressed.”

Connie put on her dance attire. Dominick was so excited that he waited outside Connie's door for her to return.

Dominick started Connie off with the proper way to stretch. Stand with your feet a little apart, your knees bent, and then put your hands on the floor.” “No, like this.”

The lesson continued for a couple of hours.

“This is really fun,” Connie told Dominick.

“I like it too.”

“Why did you give up dancing?”

“I don't know. I guess, I started to do other things,” Dominick lied.

Dominick hadn't ever spent this much time with his little cousin. He had played with her, but this was different. They were both doing the same thing and, in their way, enjoyed doing it equally. Dominick started to remember what he liked about dance. It was only that the boys started to mess with him that got him to quit. Ten-year-old boys could be very cruel.

When they decided to call it a day, Dominick joined Connie for some juice and cookies.

Dominick had worked hard to help Connie learn her dance routine. So much so that while he was on the couch, he fell asleep. He was asleep for over an hour, and during that time, Dominick forgot what Laura did to make him more flexible. He remembered instead that he had been doing stretching exercises every day since quitting dance. That was how he stayed flexible.
