Chapter 11.

“How was your day?” Laura asked in the morning.

“Pretty good.”

“Did you like dance class?” By now, Dominick had forgotten what Laura had to do to get him in such a class. Dominick believed he was in the class with seven-year-olds simply because he hadn't taken dance in so long. He never thought that there should be beginner classes for men and women his age.

“It was OK.”

“OK? Just, OK?”

“Everyone is getting ready for the recital next month.”

“So?”

“So, I'm not in it. I'm just too big. I stick out like a sore thumb. The teacher says I'm good enough, but everyone will be looking at me and not at the other girls.”

“I see.”

“I guess she is right. But everyone is working towards something and I'm not. It's just so frustrating.”

“I can fix that.”

“What can you do?”

“This!”

Laura balled her hand into a fist as usual and this time pushed the heel of her hand down Dominick's spine. Dominick started to become shorter and lighter. His clothes adjusted as he shrank. Soon he was about the size of Connie, although he was still a boy. He didn't get any younger, just shorter and thinner.

“What did you do?”

Laura looked at him with a sarcastic look on her face. He knew what had happened.

“Now what?”

“Now you can be part of the recital.”

“It's only while you're here. What's the big deal? Would you rather just watch from the stands or not be part of the recital at all?”

“No.”

“Then this will be fine.”

“But how will I drive?”

“You are right, I'll call one of the other mothers. You and Connie will have to carpool.”

Dominick didn't want to carpool, but what else could he do? He couldn't drive when he was as big as a seven-year-old.

Laura saw the look on his face. “Just try it for a day if it doesn't work out, I'll return you back tomorrow.”

“I guess.”

With the problem of Dominick's height and weight gone, his natural dancing ability as well as his dancing experience could shine through. The dance teacher had been having difficulty with the girl in the lead. With Dominick in the class, it was natural to put him in the lead as he was the best dancer.

The other students didn't like that. The former lead was their friend. They resented someone new to the class could take her place.

At ice cream after class, no one besides Connie sat with Dominick. He felt left out again.

“The girls don't like me!” Dominick complained to Laura.

“What happened?”

“I am the best dancer, so Miss Kamplin gave me the best part. But that was Maggie's part, and all the other girls are being mean to me. They said I stole her part. I didn't do that. I was as surprised as everyone else.”

“They are all sticking up for their friend,” Connie told Laura.

Laura understood what had happened. “I can fix this.”

“What are you going to do? You can't call their mothers and tell them to accept me. That would make it worse.”

“No, I'll make you all the girl's friends. Then it'll be like their own has the part. They won't be mean to you anymore.”

Dominick wasn't sure if he wanted a bunch of seven-year-olds to be his friends. But before Dominick could protest, Laura used her power again. She made all of Connie's friends become Dominick's friends too. But it extended to more than that. Dominick didn't realize it, but back at home, he wasn't friends with any of his old friends. All of his friends were little girls

Chapter 12.

When Dominick returned to dance class, he had become just one of the students. He was friendly with everyone. They were all excited to have such a good dancer to lead them at the recital. Even Maggie was excited to have Dominick in the lead. She knew she couldn't dance as well and with the pressure of being the lead gone, Maggie was happier too.

At ice cream, Dominick was treated like everyone else. There was one exception, one of the girls was having a birthday party, she was turning eight, but Dominick wasn't invited. Her mother didn't think it was appropriate to invite a man Dominick's age to a party full of little girls.

When Laura found out what had happened, she used her magic to make Dominick a young girl like all the rest of her friends. Dommie became the youngest girl in the class.

“Dommie, your mommy is on the phone,” Laura informed her.

“Hello, Mommy.”

“Hello, Sweetheart. Having fun at Aunt Laura's?”

“Yeah, it's been loads of fun.”

“Great. I have some wonderful news for you. I'm coming tomorrow to take you home.” Since Dommie wasn't a teenage boy with those nasty friends, she wasn't in trouble anymore. That bit of history had been removed from reality. There wasn't any reason for her to not be back at home.

“Do I have to come home now?”

“What's wrong?”

“I've been practicing for the recital. I'm the star of the show.”

“You are?”

“Yeah.”

“Aunt Laura didn't tell me.”

“Well, I am. I have to finish.”

“When is the show?”

“Two weeks on Saturday.”

“I guess I can wait another two weeks.”

“Will you come to my show?”

“I wouldn't miss it.”

“Yay!”

Two weeks later, Laura and Dommie's mommy sat in the front row at the recital. The girls were doing a marvelous job. Everyone enjoyed the performance. Laura kept an eye on all the dancers, she knew that not all of them were as they seemed. Dommie wasn't the only little girl who had been something else. Connie used to be Conrad, Laura's husband, and Dominick's uncle. Sarah used to be Laura's former best friend and Conrad's mistress. Now they were innocent little girls dancing their hearts out.

End.
