Chapter 2.
“Hey, watch the kids while I'm out,” your mom told you. I have to go to the market; I'll be back in a couple of hours.”
“Sure, mom.”
You were the oldest of four children. You were fifteen and in high school. You had two sisters and a brother. Ariana was the oldest of your siblings, she was about half your age at eight. Jesse was about half her age and four. Your baby brother was about half Jesse's age at two. Jerry is still in diapers.
“I think the baby needs to be changed. Check it,” Mom told you.
“Mom, can't you do it before you go?”
“I could, but I have you. Bye,” she said as she left the house.
You found your baby brother. He was toddling around happily. He didn't seem distressed by anything in his diaper. But your mom probably knew what she was talking about. You went up to him to check his diaper.
“Hey big guy,” you squeaked in a tone you reserved for your baby brother. “You need to be changed?”
The two-year-old Jerry didn't talk much. He could say a few words, not too many. Regardless, you pulled down his overalls and checked his diaper. It was wet. You didn't want to change him, but you thought you might as well.
“OK, let's take care of that.” You picked him up whether he wanted to be picked up or not.
“What are you complaining about, you don't have to change a diaper. I have to do all the messy stuff.”
You wondered for a second what would it be like to be the one to have his diaper changed and to have others look after you all the time. That might be fun. “I almost wish...” you thought.
“What am I thinking? I don't want to be stuck in a diaper. That is just plain stupid. Why would anyone want to be in a diaper? It's better to change a diaper than to wear a diaper,” you realized.
You almost swapped with your little brother, that would be a disaster.
“The woman told me to be careful. She was right.” You still didn't know how she knew about your power or why she would warn you.
It didn't take long to change Jerry's diaper. You stood him up on the floor, gave him a pat, and watched him toddle off. Although you wanted to test out your power.
You happen to follow your little brother into the living room. You saw four-year-old Jesse watching her cartoons. It was some sort of girlie princess show. She was entranced with it. She was watching intently, smiling, and giggling. The songs were so silly, but she loved them. She knew every word of the lyric. It was just about stupid princesses. They sounded all the same. How could she enjoy something like that so much? There wasn't any action. It wasn't even really funny.
You thought to yourself, “I wonder why she sees in it?” This might be a great first test. What harm could it do? Without too much thought, you said in a quiet tone that only you could hear, “I wish I knew what she saw in those shows.”
In an instant, you weren't standing at the entrance to the living room watching your sister. You were sitting in front of the TV watching Little Miley’s Princess Palace. You hadn't known the name of the show before. Now you did and you loved it. You were singing. You thought that the dress Miley was wearing was so pretty. “It's better to have a pretty dress than to have a boyfriend. You didn't like boys very much. They liked to do dumb things.
You loved everything about the show, except maybe the prince, It was a lot of fun. The princesses were all pretty and they all wore such pretty dresses. There were even catchy songs about friendships. You couldn't help but love it.
