Round and Round Chapter 1 (Patreon)

Chapter 1.

On the way home from school, you picked up a bouquet of roses. You were still carrying them when a young woman you had never met before walked up to you.

“Hello,” she said.

“Hi.”

The woman wasn't too much older than you were. She was maybe 18 or 19 years old. She was pretty although she probably would afford to lose a few pounds. Not that it mattered to you. You didn't know why a woman who was three or four years older than you would greet you like this.

“Jason, I have something to tell you.”

“You know my name?”

“Yeah, I know you.”

“But I don't know you.”

“That doesn't matter. I know something about you that you don't know.”

“What?”

“You have this, I guess you would call it a power. You can swap traits with anyone you are around just by thinking about it.”

“I can?”

“Yes, you can. I thought you should know.”

“You did this to me?”

“No, it wasn't me. I just know you have this power.”

“How do you know?”

“I just do.”

“How does this power work?”

“You make a wish, that's how. You have to be careful.”

“You mean if I say, I wish I was as smart as you?” I would be...” You didn't complete what you were saying. Knowledge flooded your mind. You had always had a hard time in school, but you knew that wouldn't be a problem anymore. It felt like you had already completed high school and were in your first year of college.

The woman screamed, “No, don't say that!” as her intellect weakened to your diminished one.

“Take it back! Take it back.”

“No way.” As you ran away from the woman, you dropped the bouquet you had been carrying. You didn't know why you had gotten flowers anyway.  Soon you lost her. She didn't know where you lived anymore. She had enough problems remembering to look both ways before crossing the street.

“Oh my god, it's true. I can make a wish and get anything I want.”

You returned home. You could swap any trait with anyone you wanted. You wanted to try your power out.
