“Let me have Todi and hold my hand.”

“Okay.”

Todi the teddy bear was exchanged before the pair held hands.

“You know what to do?”

Douglas and his four-year-old sister, Cherie trekked the walkway to Neil's house. Neil was Douglas's best friend. They had been friends for over a decade. Neil was nineteen years old although he looked older. Douglas was a year behind him at eighteen.

Cherie was an adorable four-year-old. She had expressive brown eyes with brown hair that was braided and tied off with red ribbons. She had a small nose which seemed smaller due to her big bow-shaped lips. Cherie was wearing a white peplum top with flounce sleeves and a round neck. Peeking out under her top was a pair of pique red shorts (matched the bows in her hair) with angled pockets and teddy bear decals. She didn't wear any socks under her cute canvas sneakers.

The resemblance between Douglas and his little sister was unmistakable despite their size (Douglas was nearly six feet and Cherie was just over three feet) and gender. They both looked like their mother. Douglas wore a gamer t-shirt and worn jeans with running sneakers and white socks.

“Knock on the door and say, 'Hi Neil'.”

“I know. I know.”

"Don't let go of my hand.”

“I won't.”

“OK, do it.”

*** Knock *** *** Knock *** *** Knock ***

Neil opened the door.

***Giggle *** “Hello Neil,” Douglas giggled.

“Hello, Doug. Come on in.”

“Aren't you going to say hello to Cherie?” Douglas started to smile.

“Oh, hello Cherie.”

“Doesn't she look pretty?” ***Giggle ***

“Yes, very pretty.”

“Tell her.” ***Giggle ***

“You look very pretty.”

“What about her clothes?”

“It's a pretty dress.”

“That's not a dress, that's a top.” ***Giggle ***

“What's going on?”

“Oh, nothing.”

“What do you want?”

“To come over.” ***Giggle ***

“What's wrong? Why are you acting like this?”

“Acting like what?”

“You know, weird?”

“I dunno whatcha mean.” ***Giggle ***

“Come on in. Tell me what is happening.”

“Nothin'.”

“I don't have time for this. Just tell me.”

“I'm Douglas,” the little girl said in a loud clear confident although high-pitched little girl voice.

Neil looked around. He didn't know what was going on.

“I said, I'm Douglas, I swapped bodies with my little sister.”

“That's right.” The giggles grew in intensity. “I'm Cherie,” the teen said.

“That's not possible. Stop fooling around.”

“No, I'm really Doug. I'm in my sister's body.”

“Prove it.”

“How do you want me to?”

“What happened with Amanda last year?”

“I can't say that in front of my little sister. Gawd.”

“What happened with Amanda,” Cherie in Douglas's body asks. She wanted to know.

“You're making this up.”

“I'm not. OK come down here and I'll whisper into your ear.”

Neil had to bend over to get to Douglas's level. Douglas whispered something in Neil's ear.

“No fuckin way!”

“Hey, my little sister's here. Watch your language!” Douglas said in his little girl's voice.

“It's impossible.”

“Do you believe me now?”

“I want to hear!” Cherie demanded in the baritone voice of a teenage man.

“I'm sorry Cherie. We can't tell you.”

“But I want to know,” Cherie said as she stamped her foot.

“I'll tell you later,” Douglas lied.

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

“How did this happen?” Neil asked.

“It's complicated. But it worked.”

“Are you going to stay Cherie?”

“You mean forever? No.”

“How did you do it?”

“How isn't as important as why?”

“Fine, why did you swap bodies with your little sister?”

“You know Carly got a job at the daycare?”

Carly was Douglas's girlfriend of over four months.

“Yeah.”

“Well, I want you to take me to the daycare and I'll go in like this. It'll be so funny. I'll watch her all day. She'll never know.”

“You want to go spend a day in daycare?”

“I'll be with Carly.”

“Will you tell her?”

“I haven't decided.”

“This is nuts!”

“No, it's lit!”

“What about Cherie?”

“I want you to watch her for me.”

“Hey!”

“I'll make it up to you.”

After some debate, Neil agreed. The trio drove to the daycare. Neil and Douglas got out of the car, and Cherie waited inside in the front seat. The boys shouldn't have left her alone even if she was in the body of her older brother. They didn't think about that. They were still in their teens themselves.

Neil and Douglas walked to the entrance to the daycare. Douglas tried to act as juvenile as possible.

“How can I help you?” the receptionist inquired.

“Ummm, my mother signed up my sister here for daycare. She said it had all been arranged” Douglas couldn't have his former body with Cherie inside bring him. He needed his friend to do it. The receptionist wouldn't know they weren't brother and sister. Plus Douglas's mother did sign Cherie up. Douglas hatched the plan when his mother asked him to drop Cherie off at daycare.

“What's her name?”

“Cherie King...I'm her brother Douglas.”

“Cherie is a pretty name...and you are a very pretty little girl.” the receptionist addressed Douglas.

Douglas smiled inanely.

“Let me look.”

The receptionist looked over her screen. She found the entry.

“She's four?”

“Yeah.”

“Fully potty trained, no allergies?”

“Well, she sometimes has accidents,” Neil told the receptionist. This wasn't discussed with Douglas. Douglas glared at Neil.

“Of don't worry sweetheart,” the receptionist told Cherie. “Lots of little girls like you have accidents. No need to be embarrassed.”

“I'm not, I mean I don't have.”

The receptionist smiled reassuringly.

“You're all set.”

“I can take it from here. When will you be back?”

“Ummm...”

“Five,” Douglas stated.

“Yeah, I'll be back at five,” Neil agreed. Then after a momentary hesitation, he told Douglas, “Thanks for reminding me.”

During the conversation and particularly when potty training was mentioned, Douglas realized that he needed to go to the bathroom. The need grew more urgent with every second. His bladder was much smaller, and his muscles were much weaker than he expected.

The receptionist stood up and walked around her desk. Come with me,” she said as she offered her hand.

Douglas took it. He was led to the play area for the children approximately Cherie's age. Douglas's eyes opened wide when he saw Carly.

“Hello sweetie!” Carly enthused. “I'm Carly. What's your name?”

“I'm Cherie.”

“That's a pretty name.”

“How old are you?”

“I'm four.”

“Let me introduce you to some really nice kids. This is...” As Carly was pointing out each kid, Douglas closed his legs tight. He didn't know whether to ask Cherie to use the bathroom or the potty. Cherie recognized the look.

“Do you need to potty?”

Douglas nodded his head.

“OK, come with me.”

Meanwhile, in the car, Cherie was sitting and listening to music. This was the first time she had ever been in the front seat. It was also the first time she was in a car alone with or without the engine running. The engine was running though. She pushed herself into the seat on the driver's side car. She put the car into gear, something she had seen her mother do many times before and drove off. She got into an accident almost immediately.

Luckily, Cherie didn't hit another car, she hit a pole. The car was damaged but not too badly. She knew she was in trouble. They told her to just wait in the car. She also knew she had o tell everyone that she was Douglas.

Cherie sat in the car not knowing what to do She didn't dare move the car again.

A pedestrian saw her in the car and came to her aid.

“Are you alright?”

“I'm sorry. I'm sorry!”

“What?”

“I didn't mean to do it. I'm sorry.”

Cherie started to cry.

The pedestrian repeated, “Are you alright?”

“I-I-I'm s-s-sorry. I shouldn't have moved the car. They said not to.”

“Who said?”

“M-m-my brudder and his friend.”

“What's your name?”

“Che---I mean my name is D-D-Douglas. Yes, that is right, I'm Douglas, now. I mean I'm always D-D-Douglas” Cherie sobbed.

The pedestrian knew something was wrong. This teen in the accident wasn't acting right. He must have hit his head or something.”

“I'll get out.”

“No, wait. I'll call the police.”

“No don't call them. I'll get into t-t-trouble,” she sobbed louder.

“It's OK. They'll help you.”

The pedestrian called 9-1-1 and waited for the police to arrive. Others on the street started to gather to see what the fuss was about.

Neil returned to where the car was packed to see it wasn't there anymore. “Oh, my fuck!” he exclaimed. “Where's the fuckin car?”

He didn't know what to do. The car was only a block away. The gathering crowd indicated its location. Instead of going to help Cherie. Neil took off. This wasn't his idea anyway.

In the daycare, Carly took Douglas' hand and led him to the potty. These were actual potties for toddlers, not a big toilet. There were six potties lined up in three colors: blue, pink, and white. Douglas stood in front of the closest one. He didn't know what to do. Motionless for a second.

“Need help?” Carly asked.

Douglas hesitated as he thought. ”Maybe,” he said noncommittally.

“OK,” Carly bend down to one knee, and then reached under Douglas's top and grabbed the top of his shorts. Then she pulled it down and next she pulled down his panties.

“Hop up.”

“Oh yeah.”

Douglas turned around and sat on the potty. He had never peed like a girl before. He tried to relax. He knew he had to go. It took about ten seconds for the pee to hit the potty. Carly was staring at him. Those were the longest ten seconds of his life.

“Good job!” Carly said when he was done.

Douglas started to get up.”

Haven't you forgotten something?”

“Uh no.”

“Did you wipe?”

“Oh yes. I guess I forgot.”

Carly smiled.

Douglas reached for some tissue paper. He balled it up and then wiped himself from back to front.

“You are supposed to do it the other way.”

“I am?”

“Yes, it's better that way?”

“Why?”

Carly didn't want to explain about UTIs. Instead, she just said, “It's better the other way.”

Douglas didn't know this was the exact moment that his life just went to shit. It was at this exact moment that the police called an ambulance. Cherie wasn't acting as a teenage boy should. They assumed he hit his head in the accident and was going to take him to the hospital.

Back in the car, Cherie didn't know what to do. She had crashed the car into a pole. A strange man was yelling at her/ She didn't want to get out of the car, and Douglas told her to wait in the car. It was bad enough that she moved the car. They would be very angry at her if she got out of the car too.

Cherie wanted to cry, but she had to hold out. Instead, she did what she always did when she got scared, she put her thumb into her mouth and started to suck. Then she looked over and saw Todi (her teddy bear) and grabbed it. She hugged it to her chest.

“Go away,” she told the man without pausing her thumb-sucking.

The police eventually came. It took them a while; a minor car accident wasn't a priority.

“That's the problem?”

“They young man got into an accident. There is something wrong with him. He must be autistic or something,” the man didn't know what the proper PC term was.

“Sir are you OK?” the officer asked. He saw the apparent body of a boy/man about eighteen who was sucking his thumb and hugging a teddy bear.

“I'm fine.”

“Want to come out?”

“NO, I was told to wait here.”

“By whom?”

“By my bro, I mean my little sister.”

“She did? Where is she?”

“I don't know. They wouldn't tell me.”

“They?”

“Umm, they.”

“Who are they?”

Cherie didn't want to talk about Douglas's friend. She didn't know what to do.”

“They'll come and get me,” she finally said.

“Your mommy?”

“No, mommy doesn't know where I am.”

“Let me call your mommy. Do you know her number?”

“Number?”

“Yeah, phone number.”

“No.”

“OK, I can look it up.”

“What's your name?”

“Douglas.”

“Douglas what?”

“Douglas King.”  Cherie smiled behind her thumb. She was happy she remembered to use that name.”

“OK, Douglas. Do you know your address?”

“I'm not sure. I think it's 12 something.”

“I see.”

Do you have any identification?”

“What's that?”

Cherie did have Douglas's license in the wallet in his back pocket. But she didn't know what identification meant.

“How old are you, Douglas?”

“I'm very old. I'm a grown up.”

“How old is that?”

Cherie didn't answer with words, she just showed the officer all her fingers to indicate a large number.

“I see. You're ten?”

“Maybe.”

“OK, you wait here. I'll find out who your mommy is and get her over here.”

“MOMMY!” Cherie said in excitement.

Between the name given by Cherie and the license plate on the car, the officer deduced the proper house to call. He phoned the line at the King household. No one was home though.

“I can't get your mommy, but I think you should go to the hospital to make sure you are alright. You were in an accident.”

“They told me not to leave the car.”

“Who told you.”

“I can't say.”

“Don't worry about it. I'll make sure they know where you are. But you had better come with me.”

After a little coaxing, Cherie was lured out of the car and taken to the hospital.

“Good girl,” Carly told Douglas when he was done after he hopped off the potty and pulled up his pants all by himself.

“Wash your hands with this,” Carly told him, handing him a baby wipe she obtained from a cylindrical container.

Douglas took it and wiped his hands. From his vantage point he could look straight at the underside of the swells of Carly's breasts. He had never seen them from this perspective. His real body was much taller than Carly's. She didn't even know that he was staring directly at her breasts.

“Throw it in the garbage can,” Carly told him. He did as she said. There were many used wipes in the can.

“OK, not let's get you someone to play with.”

“I want to play with you!” Douglas announced.

“I'll be around, but I have to play with all the children, not just you.”

“But I want to play with you.” Carly thought that Douglas was forming an attachment to her. It was common for the kids to like one caretaker better than another.

“OK, I can play with you for a little while. What do you want to play?”

“I don't know.”

“Well, let's see what the other kids are playing with.  Look Allison is playing with Duplos. Want to play with that?”

“I don't know.”

“Come let's try. Let's build a castle.”

“Help me!”

Douglas wanted to keep Carly as close to him as possible. He wanted to play a game, but Duplos wasn't it. He wanted to touch her breasts and see what she would do. But he couldn't be too obvious about it.

Douglas had already touched Carly's breasts many times. He had done a lot more than that, but this was fun because she didn't know who he was.
