Siphedious had an idea for a parody, and it happened to be of a song I am VERY familiar with. REM was hugely influential on my musical development, and the way they construct songs, write guitar lines, stack harmonies, were foundational for me. The tiered layers in the vocals, the interlocking riffs of bass and electric guitar, the fact that acoustic guitar is hanging out the whole time but you can barely hear it, WOW. I write just like REM. Or at least I used to.

As such, I did my best to copy the original as closely as possible. Did I succeed?

Lyrically this is commentary on toxic positivity. The original was commentary on Chinese state propaganda in the late 90s, specifically surrounding the Tienanmen Square Massacre.

ENJOY, ye shiny happy furries.

Shiny Happy furries - Siphedious Parody, Lyrics by Siph and Pepper

Shiny happy furries yapping

Meet me at the con, furries, furries

Throw your hugs around, love me, love me

Meeting up downtown, happy, happy

Political talk is unwelcome here

Keep your thoughts inside!

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries yapping

Fursuits all around, snug them, snug them

Block out all the sads, mute it, mute it

Agreement all around, happy, happy

Hide in your escape, let tomorrow die

Show your furry pride!

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries yapping

Whoa, here we go

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries yapping

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries yapping

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Shiny happy furries yapping

Shiny happy furries booping snoots

Furries, happy furries

The potentially controversial subject matter notwithstanding, I'm really pleased with this one, and glad I got to play co-lyricist with you again. It's nice to do a relatively serious song!

I've seriously been listening to the original a LOT lately..... You made it better somehow XD

Nice job! You really capture the feel of the original, and it's refreshing to have the concept out in the open this way.
