Ending GGGB (Patreon)

Hi guys!

So, as you know, right now I'm working on the ending of GGGB. This month I'm trying to complete all the artwork that will be necessary and my intention is to tackle the writing next month, so this time the development cycle will take 2 months. I hope I can complete it by then, but I'm not sure, since I'm adding new stuff as I go on all the time, which is what I always end up doing...

I'm really excited about this. This is the first time I'll be finishing a project like this, the first time I'm creating an ending for a branching narrative that has become almost too complex to handle. And I know this is of the utmost importance. I know the point of a game, like with a piece of music or any story, is not the end, but the journey. But I'm also well aware than a shitty ending can ruin a great journey.

Look at what happened with Game of Thrones recently. They were unable to wrap things up consistently and coherently and they ruined plots and characters that had been masterfully constructed to that point. I can't forget the ending of Mass Effect, which had me furious for weeks. 

No, the ending has to be consistent with the journey. I know what not to do, but I'm just discovering what to do, and how to do it, I'd say. I know I want to reflect all the choices you guys made during the game, shaping the end of Ash's story, and the story of all the supporting characters. I want to reward choice with consequence, and I hope I can make a good work with that. We'll see how that turns out!

I'm super absorbed with that work, but meanwhile I want to give you something to keep your attention. I'm not sure what would be appropriate, though. I'm reluctant to show sneak peeks to avoid spoiling the endings, and I cannot show a "preview", either. Some time ago you guys asked me to reveal my "identity", and I might do that for loyal patrons, adding a tier with "personal diaries" or something along those lines were I could show a bit about myself, the person who's behind the game. I also want to make a few polls to see what you guys want to see after this project is wrapped up, although I have a few ideas in mind already...

So, speaking about what comes after the next update: GGGB main story will be finished, but I will take one or two more months no polish things up. I want to add music to the whole game and also add some more scenes between secondary characters that Ash will visualise while hearing about them. I want to give some more scenes to a fan favorite, Jasmin. After that, I'm also thinking about maybe releasing some short DLC like spin-off updates, maybe exploring what could happen between Jess and Dave when the game is over, or seeing what Iris might be up to, etc... That will depend in what you guys are interested. And it might buy time while I prepare the new project, since the first developing stages are the most time-consuming: planning the game concept, designing and drawing all the characters, backgrounds, finding someone to help with the art, etc.

Regarding that last point, and as I said before, I'd like to hire someone to help with the art. I haven't began searching yet, but I will. My idea is to delegate the coloring to someone, so I have more time to focus on other aspects of the creative process and and the visual quality of the next game can be significantly improved. However I'm not sure if I can afford that atm, so I'm thinking about tweaking the tier structure as I already told you last month. I still have to think about it, so we'll talk about the issue at a later date.

Oh, and after all this is done, I'd like to take some holidays! It's been more than 2 years producing an update month after month, it would be cool to have a whole month for myself without having to think about work lol! We'll see if I can schedule that...

So, a very lengthy post, but I think that's all I wanted to say right now. Let me know your thoughts and suggestions down in the comments, I need to hear from you guys! I know I always say it, but thanks for being part not only of this project, but also part of this amazing community that has enabled me to complete this enormous project and make a living out of my passions for art, writing and video games. I owe everything to you!

It’s been a hell of a journey but it’s nice to see it coming to a close! After replaying the game again recently (through two paths) it’s insane how varied the different paths are, I cannot imagine how you tie all that up!

A bad ending would suck, but it couldn't ruin this great journey. Honestly, I'm heavily invested in Ashley, and would love to see a sequel one day.

I always find it nice to read these posts, it’s interesting to hear you talk about the game and the plans you have. It’s not without a bit of mixed emotions that the end is approaching. However, I think this is the best opportunity to do it. Even though you can still think of many ideas for scenes and storylines, it will be good to start something new rather than risking dragging things on for too long. It’s good to hear that you want to take the endings seriously. That’s exactly what this truly terrific game deserves. As I’ve said before, I will leave a review of GGGB once it’s is finished, where I will also share my ideas for the new game, and what I’d like to see kept from GGGB. What I can say for certain already, is that I’d definitely want to see something contemporary and corruption based, just like GGGB. Also, all elements of body modification are things I’ve enjoyed and would like to see return. I think the idea of shorter, spin-off stories is an excellent one. That would be a great way of letting GGGB live on and explore some of the avenues you never had the time to make. Me and Breadloaf discussed it a little bit before, where I mentioned “Bimbo Ash’s Showcase”. You can have similar things for other characters too. As long as this doesn’t come at the expense of a new game or is too time consuming, I’m all for it. And, lastly, that break you plan on taking is nothing I can’t encourage more. After delivering this awesome game, a break to relax and let your creativity flow is nothing short of what you deserve!

I am really glad to see you ending this on your own terms. Part of me wants this to go on forever, but like you said a shit ending can ruin something. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to play the end.

Take the time you need. And I'd suggest that you take a month off every year, since everyone need a vacation every now and then to unwind! Some behind the scenes/personal diaries does sound interesting. There's another project on Patreon which I follow where the developer posts more or less daily updates, and it's more interesting than you might think. Knowing what a developer is doing and what they are thinking builds up interest in the project and puts some faith in that something is happening, so usually more information is better than less (unless you write so much it puts a strain on the development). Things you think is mundane might very well be fascinating for us. And I don't think that you really need to "buy time" for the next game. Posting snippets about characters, environments and other things you have in plan for the game would both be interesting to read and give us the opportunity to give feedback before you commit too much to some element and having to backtrack later on.

It's finally coming to an end, huh... It's been one hell of a journey. Thanks for doing such an amazing piece of art. I'm sure you'll be able to deliver a very satisfactory ending to this game. Take the time you feel is necessary to create the conclusion for all the routes you made. As for what you said about what you plan to do next, I have to be honest and admit that I only like the spin-off idea. But it is your work, so do what you want. About your next game, perhaps you could make characters' polls to let the patrons choose the looks they like best? Dr. PinkCake did something like that when he was on the process of creating his second game, Being a DIK. As for what I'd like to see on it: corruption and lots of cheating. I'd also like to see how you'd write a male MC, but it's up to your creative vision. Honestly, I'm not interested in your personal life. I respect a lot your privacy to be curious about it. I only wanted to be sure if you were a woman or a man and you already answered me on your last Q&A. :) And I totally support you taking some time for yourself. As Breadloaf said, you should take a month off every year.

I think you could continue your series of "Scenes you might have missed" while you work on the ending. This made me go back to play some other playthroughs in order to get those scenes and see how things plays out afterwards. Awesome game!

First of all, I want to thank you for crafting the best smut game there is, period. The writing quality, all the numerous branching paths, the consistent quality of art, all of it is miles ahead of any other smut game. I also want to just make a request for the ending. It’s been awhile since my Ash (who’s a full-on bimbo pornstar now) has seen iris (who looked like she was gonna be Tyrone's gf) or Eva (who was a gangbanger, though still on good terms with Ash). I’d like to see how much more they’ve fallen since the last time I saw them, and for that matter, I want to see basically all the “main characters” one last time :)

Thank you for your game, Eva! It's very good that you have managed to make a game you wanted and it's even more cool that you will make a proper ending. Idea with DLCs is also good, don't be afraid of experimenting and even add more endings as DLCs. (I am one of those lucky people who started to play Mass Effect when all DLCs were out and I was happy with an ending :) )

I think DLC is a great idea. There are so many interesting characters and potential stories still to tell. Time off is important for the creative process, you need to decompress and think of new things.

What you achieved until now is so awesome, that I have no doubt, the endings will round things up. But it really is complex and a big pressure, so take all the time you need. The most important thing is the mentioned holiday trip, after the conclusion. I hope, you really can relax and enjoy this, to get your mind clear and let loose all the stress.
