I've been working on the "remaster" of ORS, the main focus of which is Stan's character.

As I wrote in previous posts, I wasn't happy with his character on how he fit in the overall story. When I came up with the idea of Lena having a nerdy flatmate, the main appeal to me was using a character trope I hadn't explored in GGGB, which was full of hunks and malevolent guys. I thought it would be refreshing writing scenes with a different type of character, a nerd who would be more insecure and awkward, but equally horny, and how the female MC could interact with him.

The bad thing about having the develop the game chapter by chapter, and being in a hurry to launch my new project after ending GGGB, is that there's not much time for planning, or to revise and re-write stuff. Speed is key, and there were so many important and interesting characters to develop, both from Ian's and Lena's perspectives, so there wasn't much time for Stan to be in the limelight. And at one point I just realized I wasn't really sure what to do with him. The main problem, to me, was that Stan felt merely like a trope or a caricature, not a nuanced character, especially compared to the rest of the cast, and thus his interactions with Lena felt forced and uninteresting to me.

Surprisingly, many of you seemed to like Stan (I guess his character trope is actually appealing, that's why I added him to the cast in the first place). And there was this other criticism that had been weighing on me from early on, where some of you complained about the lack of "decent" or "good guy" love interests for Lena outside of Ian. At some point I thought about adding another male NPC to fill in that role, a new co-worker at the restaurant or maybe a musician guy, but the cast is already too big, so I scraped the idea. But I kept thinking about it, and the solution became apparent: Stan, underused as he was, could fill that role perfectly. But he couldn't do it in his current state.

I've known I would need to go over his scenes and re-write some stuff for quite a while, even before starting to work on Chapter 9. And now is the right time, before the story keeps progressing too much and re-writing it becomes even more difficult and convoluted. I hope I can make Stan a more relatable character and his scenes somewhat more interesting, even though he will remain as a secondary character.

Many other tweaks and improvements will be added with this enhanced edition, so stay tuned.

My main comment is he looks very effeminate, and the long hair only adds to that.

Cool, liking the new look. Looking less like a guy who just got NTR'd & never recovered. I'm glad he's getting a rework, honestly I was starting to think his whole role in the game was to be the voyeur, cuck Lena & Louise would torture & mess with on the "Bad" route. Now I gotta play from the start again to see these new changes

I like the metal guy vibe, with a touch of geeky nerdiness (BR is an old reference for connoisseurs of the genre). I think there is maybe something to correct with his hair, they looks too smooth and silky. Overall, it's very nice ! If you keep the possibility of either having a love path or messing badly (torturing ?) with Stan, or just ignoring him, that's all good!

Ethereal Twist

Don't like his hair. Everything else looks fine but mostly he just looks the same.

BFD! What a waste!

I like your explanation, Eva! New Stan does look a bit effeminate. But I trust your vision and fully support any changes you make to ORS.

F. P. P.

He does indeed look a bit too unmanly. Other that that, I trust in you - I just hope that there will be a "look maybe even touch but don't penetrate" path with Lena 😎

Breadloaf

I see that he's an OG who prefers Battle Royale to other new-fangled last man standing fiction such as Hunger Games.

Jess

I was drawn in by the fact that he was so below Lena's standards, while it still felt like he had a good chance of ending up getting lucky with her sexually. I find this look interesting, but will be much more interested in seeing how he will be written - probably only room for a 'good guy' path?

onodera

I honestly see nothing wrong with the "effeminate look" others are complaining about. Yes, soft facial features + long hair is not the best combo if you want to slay chicks with your looks, but he just needs a Lena-driven makeover to look 6/10.

I liked the old Stan more. Stan was THE MAN, but now?! :(

Officialbolin

out of curiosity are you gonna overhaul his whole role in the story, or just from this chapter forward? also i tend to agree with other comments, something about the hair is slightly off

Braintoast93

I'm actually OK with his look. I had a class mate in school who looked a little bit like him, just without the belly, but he had a very soft face, even his cheeks were often red and he wore his hair just like Stan in the picture. And on top of that he found a very nice girlfriend. ^^

Membrano

I think the new look is fine as well. He certainly doesn't look like a complete caricature anymore. Also, I too have known people like that (maybe a bit less dorky). He seems relatable without giving up his archetype entirely, I'm excited to see what you'll do with him. PS: wouldn't Mike count as a decent/good guy? Ok, he's sleeping around, but so is everyone else.

Dónaill

He seems more social and outgoing now as far as nerdy characters go. Like the dude who spends most of his time watching anime, playing games but still can be fun to you hang out with. I always struggled to comprehend how two beautiful and outgoing ladies such as Lena and Louise would end up in the same flat as Stan. We know that Lena can be extremly kind-hearted, depending on choices, but it looked far fetched nonetheless. But with a social type of nerd I could see it happening.

Dashole

It's an OK change. TBH, I preferred the old hair.

Brother Bethor

New Look Stan reminds me of the Kindergarten Cop' villain. :D

Blaze2095

Long ponytail? Not bad. To say the least, so as long as he will have a great story that goes along with the main character, I am all for it.

VALERY SMAISER

Need to change Stan's boring life!? For example! Stan gets an inheritance (a lot of money), strengthens character and self-confidence! Stan can now actively seek intimacy with girls! Let him arrange parties for Lena and other girls! What if the guy gets lucky!

Mike the Red

I don't care for the ponytail or long, pulled back bangs. I feel that Stan already lacks most "manly" personality traits and giving him, what appears to me to be, a feminine haircut makes things worse.

Taylor Waterman

It's the damn cargo shorts! lol. Give him some jeans and the rocker/metal fan aesthetic can come through a lot better and then he and Lena can bond over metal music

emelsi

I'm excited to see him revamped and I trust your vision. That said, I am not loving the hair and feel like a cool storyline might be for Lena (or Ian!) to take him to get a "makeover" and help him with his style and build up his confidence, in the same way that Lena and Ivy did for Holly. Support and kindness and advice does wonders for people.

Mr. Bagge

Naaaeh, Stan is a no go😄

Eponymous

I'm going to miss fedora trenchcoater Stan.

When I started play ors I felt that I like to choose not obvious decisions like be cute with Stan or Robert path I see, that not everyone likes him. Also I still hope for something hot with Ed, it’s interesting to choose not obvious options(guys). ORS It’s not fairy tale with handsome prince it’s a really good story and you have a lot of choices. So just try and choose just what you want and who knows where it leads this is a “real tragedy abyss”(just remembered the words of the song and put it in the sentence hope it fits a meaning a little). The main idea is Eva doing it like she want and feel it and give us opportunity to choose what every one want, so on the one hand if you want a handsome prince or bad boys etc you’ll get it but on the other hand if you want a geek or just simple good guy, you also will get it. And finally I want to say that I play all possible options and getting a lot of positive and see how’s story going and this is amazing. I’m fan of Eva’s works, I saw and still seeing the attitude for the business and I just try to show the respect. All the best Eva and hope that you proceed to please us. And guys don’t forget Eva is one and there are many of us it’s so hard to please everyone but she trying and do it amazing so let’s show our support and won’t let she burn out. Many people are used to Eva’s high standard and sometimes overdo it “I don’t like it, I want another etc. Again just give the freedom a little bit.

I really struggeld with an answer... I am afraid to get into the "I like what I have"-trap. I do like the old Stan, I really see great potential in him, even as a little pervy, slimy, sneaky side-kick. So my starting-bias is: I am against any change! But there are two aspects that make me shift my opinion a little: At first: Would I miss the old Stan if he wasn't there from the beginning? Maybe not - this game is so much more and there are many other games completely relying on such lesser deep characters as Stan. If Eva were allowed to write a book/visual novel in the best possible way, she would have exchanged Stan without noticing us - maybe in her "making of"-special 10 years after, she would have mentioned the old Stan. So what do I want? Not loosing my old friend Stan, or letting Eva make the best she is able to?! The second aspect: Knowing Eva does not "really know what to do with him" is the key aspect for me. Surely, I can suppose many things to do with him and my ideas and fantasies may be really great, but if the artist is not behind this, it will not work. If you can't connect to an idea, you can't make it shine. I always thought Eva took her time with Stan's developement on purpose. Not forcing the masturbation-thing nor the voyeur-aftermath. But maybe, she would have added more consequences from this scenes if she were more connected to Stan. So, if the old Stan is not her style, than I should try to forget him and start looking forward to the new Stan. A little sad, but I am sure that I will have forgotten about him after a few more releases ;) .

Akajo Windbreaker

I feel like he keeps the essence of old stan but I definitely notice the spit and polish on this guy. He seems more in tune with what an actual person who has stan's issues would look like, rather than what internet culture might make you think he would look like

Fwaschuschu

Hello.... Please take all your time for making and re-making characters, I enjoy everything that is released so far and I don't mind waiting longer ^m^

J

I preffered the old version tbh i feel this new model is too clean and generic but that's just me

Fantasticon

Late to the party on this, but it might be interesting to have the option to get Stan into the gym with Ian and Jeremy, much like how Holly went to pole dancing with Ivy and Lena, but keep it largely "off-camera" given how much extra work writing and animating all that would be. This change might also open Stan up as a potential partner for Holly should Ian not pursue her? Just my thoughts, I'm happy to know there's a better version of Stan on the way regardless.
