As I said in my last post, I'm sharing some of the reworked illustrations for the upcoming revised build of ORS. When I started production, fresh off GGGB, I carried the production style and workflow from my first project, which was way more fast-paced. It was only after a few months working on the new game that I saw how experience, ambition and financial investment in my new game was pushing it's quality higher than I expected at the start.

This meant that the first compasses of ORS lacked quality, especially compared to the latest chapters. Aside from the need of reworking the scripts, I also wanted the game to feel coherent visually, and there were some pretty ugly illustrations (especially the infamous Alison scene at the top). That's an unfortunate result of having to produce content continuously: I rarely get the chance to re-do stuff and often times I just go with the first result. But since I decided to slow down and revisit the scripts, I'm also using this chance to update some illustrations I felt were in dire need of it.

Some took one more than one try before getting a result I was happy with. One aspect in which I've been taking more time recently is choosing the reference image (or images) to base the drawing on. I try finding compositions that will depict the scene in a striking and interesting way, and sometimes I create collages of several images to get as close as possible of what I have in mind. And sometimes those pictures don't work as I was hoping or I just mess up the line-work and end up with bland or weird looking illustrations...

I also remastered other illustrations, instead of completely re-doing them. I've been picking up new techniques to illuminate the scene, make the volumes of bodies more interesting and merging the background with the drawing. As you can see, this illustrations greatly benefits from it... It takes more time and effort, but I feel it's worth it in the end.

These are only a few of the many re-draws and re-masters I'm implementing. I ended up doing more than I had planned at the start, and I still would like to do some more, but I have to stop myself at some point...

What do you think about these images? Do you think investing time and effort in these is worth it? Would you like to see more or do you prefer discovering them as you re-play the game when the update comes out?

Looks nice. I would much prefer to see new scenes in new update because the old images were good to me and they are 100% better than all other games of this genre. But you're the boss

Mikasa

I think the improvements are great! I agree that the artwork is stunning either way. You're amazingly talented and I am glad to be part of this great community! Keep up the good work Eva!!

NN94

I would say to apply the improvements directly in the new chapters. So as to move forward in the story calmly, using the new models.

TripleV

The new art looks amazing.

Prodigal Paragon

Looks good but don't get too caught up. Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Gicoo

The artwork is only a part of the game. Story, gameplay and proper coding is just as important. So I prefer if the skeleton of the game is finished first and then everything can get finetuned. There is always room for improvement everywhere, so a perfectionist would never be happy with the work and get stuck on the old chapters and not being ready to work on the new chapters.

ramses301

The new artwork looks amazing!!!!! I personally don't ming waiting for things to be how you want them because that just means that you put more of yourself into the project. I'm so looking forward to playing the updated version and seeing all the changes!! I love your work and truly appreciate you taking the time to make sure we get such quality content. Keep up the amazing work!!!

ZeroOne

I must safe the old game versions because i love your New and old art. Great work. I love to get a Emma and, or Louise teaser :)

Brother Bethor

I absolutely love both new images and remastered. The improvement is plain to see. Everything (most of all the poses and facial expressions) looks much better now. I'm very happy to see how you are constantly looking to improve you art/ work. Can't wait to play "Enhanced Edition". <3

I think you made the right call. I think the new images look a lot better, and it’s going to serve the game better in the long run. I’m all for fine tuning this game, to make it as good as possible, because it’s needs to serve your vision more than it needs to make some people’s personal deadline. Take as much time as you want, because at the end of the day, it’s the little things that turn something good into something great.

Notorious Kyl

I personally believe taking your time with the illustrations is well worth the wait for your audience. I also thought the previous illustrations were good, that's kind of what had drawn me to GGGB and Red String. These more "detailed" depictions will make it next level for your audience!! Bravo!

Jess

Wow, the last one is really night and day. Even though I always thought of your illustrations as being some of the best in the genre, this just pushes ORS even further in front of the competition. Although having some restraint (and not re-doing everything) as you talk about, is probably for the better.

I'll wait ten years for (if you give us) cindy slut path. Jeremy , Axel , Seymour etc. Love your games Eva , absolutely best ever . Thank you for your job . GOAT .

Dear Eva, your post shows above all with how much heart and commitment you pursue your project. Between the lines I can always feel the questioning and optimizing on your part. In some comments here it sounds that perfectionists run the risk of never being finished because they always find a corner to tune. But it's precisely the perfectionists who don't just deliver an ordinary performance, but whose tireless efforts lead to the creation of real masterpieces. ORS is already exceptional in every respect. Also your previous pictures were in my eyes already very high quality and drawn by high artistic skill. But it's also the story with really brilliant, unique ideas (I'm thinking of the special trip for example), the erotic appeal, the quality of the implementation, the programming skills and the user experience and project management. You master all disciplines, otherwise this game wouldn't be so exciting. I look forward to your new ideas and illustrations.

Lumin

The new art is FANTASTIC. Particularly that Alison one...whew. It's a stunner for sure. I'm impressed with the progress and excited for your work! If there's any new Emma artwork I wouldn't mind seeing that in the next teaser!

Macca

Amazing work!

I liked the old ones well enough, but it's clearly a huge improvement across the board. The poses, proportions and coloring are all much better, I especially like the new skin and hair for all 3 characters. That said, revising the visuals like this is a bit of a slippery slope, and perfect is the enemy of good as they say, but I trust you to know where to draw that line and I think it's okay to periodically revisit older content that you weren't totally happy with throughout the development.

The new pictures look better than the old ones. But the old ones worked; I wasn't bothered by them. I understand and respect your desire to put out a polished product. But, as the saying goes, perfect is the enemy of good. I personally would always, always choose to have more, new content, exploring new scenarios and new outcomes, than reworking old content. But again, I understand your desire to do so.

Ray

I'm totally fine with either. I don't see the improvements without focused attention. So, I defer to you as the artist and as the developer with your plan and timeline.

Reaurt

These pictures look great. I wouldn't mind being kept in suspense and enjoying the new pictures when the revised game is released.

Dashole

Time spent well worth it!!! 😍😍😍

Spidey96

For me personally I wouldn't mind seeing more of the redraws, but I'd like an ETA on the official release before rediscovering these scenes.

HBI

I thought the work was great the first time. This is better.

Eva, you made my wife laugh at me! She "caught" me reading your mail with a hand on the screen trying to cover the pictures. After lifting my hand and stating "Old and new Versions of the pictures of my favourite game", she laughed at me. Well, she knows, I also go to the movies and try to cover my eyes and ears if a trailer of a good future-movie runs before the main feature :D . As much as I try to avoid spoilers, I finally had to look at all of your pictures. I fought the urge almost 2 or 3 hours - I am a tough guy, ain't I ;) ? But other than the spoiler-problem, I really like your explainations - how many aspects of an image you can improve. I wonder how this zoom-in on Lena will feel in the game. The old picture of her was not as beautiful as the new one, but it emphasized the effect of her beeing completely exposed in the open. But with story and more zoomed-out pictures before and after, this even might simulate the eyes of Ian, zooming in on Lena :) . One aspect I think gets your picture quality forward a giant heap is the much better depiction of Lena's full frontal head. In profile, you already create the most beautiful Lena, but from the side, she did look a little different. For example the three pictures with Lena on Robert(?): The first one showes her with a wide, flat face. Your fantasy can do the trick, but I always stumbled a little over her looking like her not so attractive sister. The second picture looks more natural, but clearly isn't Lena. The lady in the picture is beautiful, but has a little of Emma(?) or Alison(?) mixed in the face. But the third picture is Lena and she looks as beautiful as from the side! You really added the complete third dimension to it (and I don't even exactly know how you did it)! It lookes amazing! I did not have mentioned the flat-face effect before for it is a minor-minor one, but since you mastered this skill, I want to share my joy over this :) . For your question: I really enjoy reading your posts, but I really hate to get the "gems for free". I want to earn the hot scenes and even spared some of them for later. What about posting the non-nude scenes here? You would not spoiler that much but could still show us your improvements. Another stupid idea: Why not talk about a sentence you have worked on for some time in order to make him sound right. Would be interested in this, too. I think you will leave the new beginnig as a surprise, but afterwards, you also could tell us why you think it fits more or what was wrong with the original one. For the time-aspect, I don't know how to answer... a part of me is a little child that can't wait, another loves your perfection and this beautiful full frontal Lena :) . I think it will get clearer after playing it. If the noticable difference is "only" in the pictures, my child might take over. But if the dialogues, the beginning, Stand or the "red string" is also noticable enhanced, I think it really was worth it. And I am glad to see you back posting more frequently :) . Hope you get even better and stay well :) !

Eva, just please tell me that you made an illustration of Ian flexing during his athletic approach when talking to Jess at the shine, and I'll be very happy with this revamp. ;) Kidding, of course. Loved all the new drawings, specially the one with Alison.

user1245

I might be in the minority, but I think the old ones looked great. I'd personally really encourage you to keep going with new content, instead of getting stuck reworking old stuff that people love.

ArtMark

the way I see it, the game is still a work in progress, one that i can play as it is made, but a work in progress none the less. i think the game has a chance to be something special, something that when it is finished, could be one of the best VNs of all time, even counting SFW titles. the art is a big part of that experience, and unfortunately the way you made the game means all of your worst art is at the beginning stages that introduce people to your game. i get the desire of people who want new content because they already played the beginning and they want to see the end sooner, but I don't think your current audience is NEAR as big as it could be, and when i think of the potential new players who load up the game for the first time, I want them to be blown away at the very beginning by the game's quality, and a large part of that is the art. there is an argument to be made that it is better to finish the story then revamp the art, but i don't really mind it being done now, it just means more new players will see the best the game has to offer, and may decide to support it going forward. to sum it up, i think the games true potential, which i believe to be very high, can only be accomplished by reworking and remastering the old art, and that now is the most efficient and opportune time to make that investment.

Volontieur

It's really good! ) I li... LOVE it! ) New images really makes diffirence. Thank you very much for such devotion to your work.
