This is a great video. Thanks for all your efforts and patience battling the copyright bots to screen this for us last night

Jamal l

Last night was rough. The algorithm was working hard to keep this video from us.

Isaac Cynova

Unofficial sequel to the SuperEyepatchWolf wrestling videos. I’m here for it.

Wow, that last 10 minutes hits hard. It's interesting with Lesnar, his last fight in MMA before he left to go to wrestling, he was brutally TKO'd (liver kick) by Overeem (half Jamaican). I wonder if getting a story line like he got, finishing Kofi so fast, was part of his deal to go over? I also just noticed...that 70 year old woman giving birth to a...hand...is smoking a cigar while doing so? What!? :-D

Philip Coulam-Jones

Excellent video, really enjoyed it! Kinda surprised you didn't mention that time that DX wore blackface to make fun of the Nation though, can't believe Triple H lived that one down. But I can understand if you didn't think it was necessary, it's not like the video's hurt by it's absence

Micah Smith

This video made me cry and I aint never watched wrestling a day in my life...bravo! I loved learning so much about it

Zach Stolpa

It’s understated the damage someone like Moolah did for the landscape of women’s wrestling, who knows what black female wrestlers would’ve shined if wrestling’s politics weren’t so effed up keeping her in place.

Danny McCaslin

I enjoyed the video but have a couple of critiques. One, Virgil passed away at the end of February. Two, there is a trend in this video of looking at WWE/WCW as the whole of the wrestling industry. Toe the greatest black champion was Junk Yard Dog, who was on top of the Mid-South Wrestling territory in Louisiana and who did spend time in the WWF in the mid 80s and was featured on the Hulk Hogan Rock n Wrestling cartoon. Anyway, this was a really great video despite my historical meanderings. Another interesting story regarding race and wrestling is Sputnik Munroe, a white wrestler who was credited with helping to end segregation in Memphis through a heel angle where he demanded that black fans be able to sit where they want. It's a fascinating story.

Zach Stolpa

I think what’s also very peculiar with wrestling is for some of the biggest stars in it’s history like Bruno sammartino and the person to follow him as champion Pedro morales were picked because of their connections to their respective identities but it was not given the same treatment with black wrestlers. Maybe the closest example would for those times would be JYD, kinda wish you’d give he a mention but still very much enjoyed the video entirely.

Zach Stolpa

Fun fact about kamala, he had a run in with Andre the giant in the back of a show one day before a match where he had to stand his ground on Andre taking advantage of him and made Andre have to take a step back, eventually letting Kamala slam Andre something only a select people in wrestling history were allowed to do.

I was lucky enough to be there the night Kofi won the title. Me and my homegirl were both jumping/hugging/crying. I’ll never forget that feeling the moment when the bell rang. Other than the pain, that’s as “real” as pro wrestling gets

I remember being a little girl in the 80's watch Junk Yard Dog with my dad. The last time I watched he was in the ring with his face covered in blood, so after that I was pretty traumatized lol. Thanks FD for an excellent video!

Austin

Excellent vid, thanks FD.

Awesome video. Only thing missing from this video is Awesome Kong

Utomneian

awesome, i keep forgetting you are a pro-wrestling fan. is this video going up on the YouTube later on? i have friend who may not be into "leftist" videos, but they love wrestling related stuff, this could be a good springboard for them to give you a chance.

emma

...did you even watch the video? I feel like you could only have this question if you didnt watch the video.

Peter Ciccolo

Hopefully AEW puts gold on Swerve Strickland sooner rather than later.

Stephen Stroud

At the 48 min mark that’s not Ron Simmons, that’s Charles Wright 🤘🏾

I've just started and it's great so far - even though I'm not a wrestling fan myself, your analysis makes me interested. Anyway, just in case you are still looking at edits before putting it out publicly: the green screen is a bit too aggressive (e.g. at 4:48 your hand is disappearing). (Hope this comes across in the spirit it's intended - I'm sure the video is great with or without the tweak, you do what you think is best, but just a little heads-up in case you don't already know about it.) Thanks for what you do.

CookingWithSilence

The kid in me thought you where making an announcement that you where wrestling and I thought "cool"!

Gary Hicks

My favorite video of yours so far

Utomneian

you are an astute detective, and i would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and that talking dog, Scooby Doo!

A.David Silverman

Again, shout out to your editing staff. Ok, the green screen might have gotten aggressive at some points, but the addition of the B Roll, and the graphic work etc., is really raising your already strong game.

okays, i see there is indeed a YouTube version uploaded, but i might as well comment here now that i finally watched the Patreon version... quick history, i only watched wrestling, specifically WWE, as a kid for about the last 2 years of the Attitude Era, and maybe the first couple months of the Aggression Era before i decided that i didn't like the new stars and direction of WWE. many, many years later, i was invited to a watchparty for AEW Full Gear (i think 2021?) and it had the magic that i felt like was lost so many years ago (though that magic is starting to dry up again in recent times, but that is a whole another conversation). now since this video is focused on black wrestlers, i will try to keep focused on that. i do remember The Godfather when i was a kid, in retrospect that was problematic, but it was amusing to me at age 14 at least, lol. i remember Booker T, he was definitely talented (i heard about the Triple H feud and controversial result of that Wrestlemania before this video, that really bites). i actually seen some of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston from the brief time i tried to watch WWE again in early 2023. they are definitely talented, but overall i couldn't stay into WWE for long, it just doesn't have enough of what i'm looking for these days. Daniel Bryan, now Bryan Danielson, has been doing well in AEW at least. while i think AEW has many flaws, i think overall they have been doing pretty good with at least half the storylines, and trying to push wrestlers who deserve it. like Jade Cargill, a black female wrestler, was a long running TBS Champion before she decided to part ways with AEW. then you got male black wrestlers like Limitless Keith Lee who i think came from WWE, and Swerve Strictland who was Killshot in Lucha Underground. Keith and Swerve held the AEW Tag titles for a good while a couple years ago, before kayfabe split their interests into solo careers, and Swerve went into heel mode and at this point is the head of the Mogul Embassy stable. side-tangent: i hate the modern designs of the WWE belts, yuck. wait, Samoa Joe was in WWE? strange, i only knew he was in Ring of Honor. i never really dived into his history though, i kinda think Joe is over-rated, but i will admit, he plays a solid heel. i never liked Brock Lesner, Bastista, or John Cena for that matter, in fact, it was the combination of those two entering WWE, and me seeing the departure of Mick Foley and less of The Rock that ultimately made me quit wrestling for nearly two decades. anyways, sorry for the really long comment, i just had a lot to say. hope you have a good day, comrade.

I grew up in Central America, with a TV that had very little channels, but wrestling was always on. This video brought up so many memories and nostalgia. I stopped watching 20 years ago, but it’s something that stays with you. I always compared it to the “stories” my granny watched, nothing and everything made sense at the same time. Thank you for this 🤎

I started watching WWE in the early-mid 2000s, so I'm very much a product of the John Cena takeover. I genuinely wanted tp be a professional wrestler for a large part of childhood, even knowing the fakeness of it all, I equally found a love and appreciation for the story-telling. However, as highlighted in the video, I didn't have many faces that looked like me to look up to and strive for. I ultimately outgrew my interest just after the Daniel Bryan championship reign so I never got to see the Kofi Kingston redemption arc covered in this video. i'm 23 now and havent watched WWE in over 10 years but this video really made my day. All of the ideas and topics covered were things I knew and felt both consciously and subconsciously as a child watching these stories. Thank you so much for telling the story and making this video!

KC Bondurant

I used to be a huge fan of WWF, WCW, NWA completely blind to the careers of black wrestlers and what they had to go through to get where they are today. I was watching this video on YouTube when suddenly, "This video is no longer available" about watching it about a third of the way through (not far off from the point of the video). I am grateful I was able to finish it on Patreon but what the hell? What did you violate on YouTube? Everything I saw was free use. I've seen lots of content creators posting far more footage on YouTube of WWE matches on their channels and you didn't say anything too controversial. Did you take it down yourself?

TRPKing

I have so much to say about the Kofimania story. But I’ll address the worst part of it: Rey Mysterio could have and should have brought Cain Valasquez out to distract Brock BEFORE the bell rang. Kofi could have and should have capitalized on the distraction by hitting Brock with a big trouble in paradise and then wrestling with Brock for a bit before escaping with a win. They brought Cain out at the end to distract everybody from the fact that Kofi just lost in 5 seconds, but the 5-second loss was too big of an offense in my opinion and I ended up hating Rey Mysterio because he didn’t help Kofi in any way.

This video hurt my heart for several reasons, but Vince McMahon is gonna Vince McMahon (Bastard)!
