I disagree with FD's take on this being the worse time in media due to late stage capitalism ... I can see how some things have gotten more exploitative but the voice and reach alone of what an individual can achieve is extremely heightened unlike no other time. I have the ability all the way up in Idaho to pay FD monthly so that he continues to educate in the way he sees fit. Nebula also is something I think that would not exist previously, now it does, that is AWESOME. I don't fully understand his take there ...

FD, I really appreciate how thorough you are about explaining all your cultural references, whether they're from Black or white sources. Sometimes I watch your videos with my (white) husband who is very offline and also grew up under a ROCK and therefore needs every single bit of context you provide 😭 I swear to god you're one of the only creators whose videos we can watch together without having to pause several times so I can explain who all these people and things are 😭😭😭

I saw A Jazzman's Blues at a TIFF screening and was struck by it all seemed to be elements of other films from the past decade that had been highly regarded. Like he'd seen those films and thought to himself "I can put some of that in my film" but that's ALL he'd felt. The acting was great but there was something very sterile about all of it. Amazing video, thank you, it really contextualises things I couldn't get my head round with Perry.

This is very impressive.. I've been a SAG/AFTRA member and AEA member since 1993. When he uses non-union talent, he's also avoiding paying for health insurance and paying into pensions that come with SAG/AFTRA and AEA memberships. That's so dirty for a Black TV and Film mogul who professes to support Black artists to undercut talent. Even in the interview you show with the Female actor talking about her hair, he should be paying a hair and makeup department to do the wigs properly, not the Female Actors just doing their own hair. so messed up. In addition to being an Actor, I'm a Film and TV critic. My blog is connected to Rotten Tomatoes. If Rotten Tomatoes reviewed YouTube/Patreon videos I would totally make this certified fresh 5 tomatoes. I'd love to interview you for my podcast if you're available.
