Discord update (Patreon)

Good morning everyone,

Just a quick update on the Discord. I've finally joined a few Discord boards, and I kind of want to take a bit more time feeling it out before I start one.  I'm trying to see how other folks boards are running before I get to far ahead in my own.

I'll be revisiting this in the future but for now that's on hold.  I apologize to anyone that disappoints.  I promise to launch it sometime in the winter hopefully...

I definitely am team: take your time. It's better to have things set up how you want it than retroactively make changes when things go ways you don't want

Glad you’re taking the time! I’ve seen way too many people jump on disc (or other forums) and have to shut them down because they didn’t understand it (not that I do!), glad you’re feeling it out first

Take your time! Coming from a moderator on a couple servers, it is ALWAYS disastrous to start a server before getting it properly set up. Better to wait and start it when you're sure it'll be properly run.

Patreon acting as a paywall seems to be a big help in making a better chat experience on Discord. Well-meaning patrons may still blunder and say something inappropriate on occasion, but it cuts out a lot of malicious actors. It is a lot like a classroom. The people there are invested in the conversation, but a moderator is still needed if things get heated.

Speaking from my own experience as someone who is in a handful of Patreon Discord servers and runs one for a local community group... they're a lot. When they're good, they can be a nice resource and way to connect with other people. When they go off the rails, they can be a nightmare. A lot of creators I follow have strict no Discord policies and I fully support that route for them. I know each audience is different and keeping a constituency satisfied matters, but I personally am perfectly happy without. (Also, absolutely love your work 💗)

Totally get it, it legit took me about an hour to figure out how to even just get approved to join the Saint Andrew discord! 😂
