Clarifying a scene at the willow world- The reason why the prostitute chick stood behind Mariko was because she noticed that John and Mariko have feelings for one another and that Mariko was uncomfortable being there to be his translator. “A woman can not look away when another suffers” is what she said to her. She gave Mariko and John a brief moment of intimacy, that’s why the camera panned to the side and only had Mariko in the frame to make it seem like she’s talking directly to John about what the Willow world is. The directing, visuals, and character interactions are really good man. It’s a shame this is only getting one season since it’s adapting a book, appreciate it while you can

Toranaga was not pimping out Mariko the girl yall are talking about was Kiku the prostitute in the red fit in this episode

It was explained last episode that Mariko's father orchestrated the assassination of the previous ruler who was Ochiba's father who later went on to have a son with the Taiko who took over after and believes that Toranaga helped assassinate Ochiba's father. Also, E can't read - its Toranaga not Takamoto you fool.
