I think y'all would be interested in a documentary called "Elvis Presley & the Black Community." I believe it is in two parts. It would be GREAT if you'd react to it. Soooo many black reactors have watched this and completely changed their minds about Elvis and his relationship with the black community. It's a beautiful story. You'll see the likes of Sammy Davis, Jr., B.B. King, Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom, who one of Elvis' backup singers), James Brown, and Little Richard in this documentary. I always heard that people in my generation (I'm 47) hated Elvis and I think it's a result of a bunch of rumors that circulated later on. But the people in this doc actually KNEW Elvis personally and were his friends or colleagues, so they came together to set the record straight.

Im aware of Elvis history. He relied on black music to get him famous and keep him famous by stealing black folks songs. Many black people gave him a pass because Elvis was down with black people and black people accepted him. Doesnt change what he did by stealing our music and swag to form his whole persona. I might still watch this documentary

You must do Jimmy Fallon's interview with Jimin and the sketch he did with Jimin at the same time showing that Jimmy is a super fan (he really is!!). So very funny. You will love the amount of English that Jimin speaks during the interview, he then performs Like Crazy. Best wishes and a happy Christmas to you all.

I see where you're coming from. I've always wondered if he ever got permission to record the song "Hound Dog." I'm sure there weren't actual copyright laws protecting it at the time, especially for black artists. But I just wondered if he knew the lady and asked her if it was okay for him to record it. Since he did have a good relationship with people in the black community, it's possible they had an agreement. Or Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti." I kinda don't think there waa an agreement there, from how LR spoke about it...but LR did say that thanks to Elvis recording it, it made him (LR) a bigger star after that. Anyway, times certainly were different then. As it is now, people can do covers of songs as long as rights ajd laws are observed. But when it comes to style, I believe music can inspire and influence, especially if you grow up within certain communities and it's just your life and you love it. I mean, should we cancel Eminem because he loves black culture and made rap his livelihood?
