Apanman is a character that is a study in self sacrifice. He gives pieces of himself to people who are hurt or hungry and etc. Popular in japan and Korea as an iconic children's character so it matches the bright and fun choreography and message of this song which is basically about making the world a better place by being a good person.

Funny thing is, Anpanman is actually deeper than you think, and wasn't meant to be only funny or derpy. Lol. In the lyrics, you find out that BTS is comparing themselves to Anpanman, who is a superhero who GIVES OF HIMSELF to the poor and underprivileged. BTS identifies with Anpanman in that they want to constantly be giving the best of themselves to ARMY. There is a reason why many ARMY say "BTS found me when I needed them most." For instance, I had just ended a 13 yr "marriage" to an abuser and needed to remember that there are still good men in the world who do not use and abuse women. BTS gave me that hope back and I was able to laugh again from the outright JOY they give out.

Anpanman is such a cute little superhero. He quite literally sacrifices pieces of himself to save others (hence the part you liked of rm pretending to tear a piece off of his head to give Jimin). The song itself is a fun play but seeing them have so much fun with it during performances is soooo healing. I'm so glad y'all liked this song lol

I fucking love Anpanman!! That shit is goofy as hell and I'm here for it. As always with BTS, it has a deeper meaning. Anpanman is a Japaneses superhero that doesn't have the ability to fly and such but can break off a piece of himself (Anpan bread) to feed starving children. In the song the boys allude to the fact that they will be there for us when we need it and remind us that we can be helpful to others in our own small ways too. You don't need to be a superhero to be an everyday hero. 💜 P.S.
