I recommend watching Rotten Mango's video's she does crime story videoes. She is Korean American and often does videoes focused on South Korea ,and how harsh cancel culture is there ,and often how the criminal justice system there is too light. Some of her videos are pretty intense ,but I think this one would be good for you all to watch. It details how one of the actors from Parasite's reputation and life were ruined by rumors, the police, and the media along with blackmailers. I dont want to give anything away. It is long by the way so I understand if you can't watch it. https://youtu.be/DOHED9TcOCI?si=OdrpyfLcRCM9mU_9

The Taemin you are used to seeing is older Taemin from his late 20s to early 30s. He's 32 years old now but he's been in the kpop industry since he was 12 years old, so the old clips of Taemin are basically him going through puberty from when he was in the band SHINee. Taemin became a trainee at 12 years old, SHINee debuted in 2008 when Taemin was 14 years old. The minute he became a trainee he was working and living away from home. The older members of SHINee did their best to protect him and look after him but they could only do so much because they were young themselves and the company was breathing down their necks with every little step they took. Taemin in his 20s and 30s definitely took back his control. He made songs that offer a powerful blend of artistic independence, self-confidence, and emotional liberation, often defying traditional K-pop norms to foster empowerment. Often focusing on self-expression and breaking free with songs like; "MOVE," "Advice," "Guilty," "Criminal," Sexuality" and "Pretty Boy". . 'Sexuality' (2016) - explored intimate, natural human connection. An artistic expression of maturity and vulnerability rather than just physical attraction. A shift in his performance style towards a more sophisticated "hypersensuality" that blurs traditional gender lines. . 'Criminal' (2020) - he moves away from being a passive figure ("victim") to embracing a more complex, active role in his performances. A "rebirth" where he takes control of his narrative, moving beyond the "innocent" or "tortured" image to become an active agent in his artistic storytelling. In early 2024, Taemin left SM Entertainment after 16 years for his individual contract, while continuing with SHINee, and joined BPM Entertainment. - This was a new step towards having more control over his career and, by extension, stepping away from the constraints often associated with large agency management (SM ent.).

A lot of things definitely have to change from the top down for the idols to be safer and well cared for. Nothing will change unless the companies decide to put a stop to it and start defending their idols diligently and promoting them age appropriately. As we have seen time and time again from new kpop groups the same mistreatment is repeated and nothing is done about it.

Hybe did not exist as a big company when BTS debuted. Big Hit was their company. Hybe former several years later and became the mega company that umbrellas lots of smaller labels/companies. But yes, kpop companies have been notoriously awful for years. They do not need to debut idols so young but there is a dark history behind it all so...the fact that alot of newer fans are international fans you are seeing a shift to them realizing that they can debut grown men and grown women and still do well internationally.
