Shout out to E-Man because even though he doesn't like One Piece he remembers a lot about it. One of the reasons I feel Luffy gets a lot of love is because he's the main character in one of the biggest animes of all-time. This episode was a B- overall.

I’m 48:45 into this and wtf. They showed that green haired dude already?!?? He doesn’t come out for a loooooong time in the anime where JC is at. And that Gold D Roger son mention????!? Idk guys I think you should all wait. This live action brings shit that is far into the future of the anime. Example, Garp being Luffy grandpa was introduced season 1 of this show. The anime introduced that about 300ish episodes in. I’m surprised 4 didn’t command this reaction to stop once that cell conversation happened. You guys might want to stop. Wait for 4 and Kion to finish season 2 and wait for their go ahead if you should watch this Jody.

its really not that deep and they dnt have time to make 3000+episodes this is a live action tv show and honestly they way they r showing the characters are fine imo plus this isnt 4 the ppl who already watched the anime either

A lot of his fans were kids when they started watching him and they were use to the things that he does over the years. Do the popularity grew over the years. Me personally I don't hate him, but I understand that he has that "Main Character Plot Armor" so he's going to do things that are like WTF. We'll see how you feel about him the deeper you go in the anime.

He's loved for more than just being the main character. He's liked both because of his comedic moments (AKA stupidity) and heart. He is one of the few characters that doesn't hide their feelings 99% of the time, tells it like it is. and does what needs to be done without hesitation. His goal is to be the most free person in the world, so that includes freedom to go where you want, to care (or not to care) for who you want, and to chase whatever dreams you want. Oda himself has said Luffy is not a hero or a savior (like Goku or Superman), so he isn't written to fit that. His desires are selfish, but the outcomes end up being heroic most of the time. This is where you get the "he causes his crew to be in danger" but "he saved an entire nation from a tyrant" dynamic.

That episode is half canon, half filler. Oda designed him, but he never made it into the manga as intended; he was cut for pacing.
