Man that woke shit get too yall head too much. The flashback of the mom talking about how black people are treated was set in the 90s. It’s just being historically accurate of how black people used to think back in the day and still somewhat think but obviously the oppression was felt to a way higher level in the 90s than it is today and yall obviously don’t need me to tell yall how much more of an issue race was back in those days.

There is an idea in this episode that I really like that plays into the previous episodes and is certainly the vibe for the series. John spends most of his life right up to only a few months before the series starts being told of how to think about Hal. His parents tell him he's someone of privilege that he needs to overcome the military tells him he's a loose cannon that does nothing but cause problems and the guardians make it seem like he was never fit for the ring and needs a replacement. Already this perception has started to shatter (even on their first meeting) and it's a good setup for John learning that Hal being picked wasn't a mistake. Also a black women wrote this episode that’s probably why we got a strong backbone women of the household 💀

49:09 Jody wanted that death. 😂. I understand that there are certain things you can't and shouldn't bring from the comics to live action, but here's one of the main issues with this show. Since Hal went "Rouge" the Guardians can easily take the ring away from Hal. What's stopping them from doing that ? Is this version of the Guardians are the weaker version? That's tough because that's basically bringing them down to a level that's not feared and respected throughout the galaxy. They have the power to do that from what I know about Green Lantern. I do appreciate the John Stewart backstory even though some things could have been left out. Now we see even more why he's a robotic type individual. This is definitely the best episode of the season and I give it a B+.

The origin all original , only thing true yes john was the only lantern chosen by gaurdians when guy gardner was injured and hal went against the gaurdians orders. His parents were never abusive, his father name is actually Henry stewert in comics

KingAJ

that was Laura linney she played the mom in Ozarks

Im starting to hate this show...... they make their own rules when it comes to Green Lantern lore, fine im going with what the show gives me but no parent whould act this way, to treat their child this way so they can maybe become a Lantern. They are not just trying to raise a kid without fear they are putting him in dangerous situations throwing caution to the wind. Then the woke BS like Hal not having fear because he is a privilege white man or aliens not considering us because we're black. I hate how humans just act as if seeing an alien is just another Tuesday. These people know little to nothing about Green Lanterns (or aliens) and yet raising their son to be one

Jody I hear where you're coming from about him being manufactured and not being a superhero. Me personally I never considered Lanterns to be Superheros. They galactic employees, no different than the police. They punching a clock just like us lol

Jodys Corner

That is true, for every lantern outside of earth. Thats what makes an earth lantern special. Theyre more than just cops, their heroes who believe in good

Trap West

Exactly, that's why the Guardians aren't rocking with Jordan. I'm expecting Stewart to have his Earth-lantern moment in this show, where he has to show his humanity and prove to the Guardians that humans will always be human regardless of whether their mom is a psychopath or not. If they don't deliver that, this show is going straight the trash. Also I live in London and there's a theatre called the old vic, I watched Arron Pierre play in a adaptation of One who Flew over the Coo Coo's nest, dude definitely has range, they just give him the Hollywood bullshit treatment because he has a strong jawline. B+ so far. Enjoying the reactions just keep Kion bologna meat face away and we good

This show reminds me why we don’t get many black superheroes in media. Show runners don’t seem to understand that these characters JUST HAPPEN to be black and their entire characterization doesn’t always have to be about the black experience, struggle and poverty! Shit is getting played out. John Stuart is an interesting character OUTSIDE of him being black but that’s all this show seems to focus on. The black mom is also absolutely deranged what the freak, she belongs in Arkham.

Jody with another 🔥 reaction. I have problems with this episode, particularly the forced racial dialogue, but this actually made John really interesting imo. I get the knock of Jody saying this is the easiest acting job in the world for Aaron Pierre, and to a degree he’s right, but John is so repressed and unable to process his emotions to the point where anything he’s says is a lie or passive aggressive. The tidbits of vulnerability he gives in his expressions (like when he got rid of the bird in episode two) are who John actually is and how he feels. That’s such a good divergent to Hal who’s abrasive, rash, and opinionated.

Gurren

Worst show ever and superhero product ever Even Supergirl and fantastic 4 with Michael b Jordan is better than this. I agree with grant Morrison that this show is trash. I recently found out that Berlanti pitched numerous times to HBO for a epic cosmic level opera - you know like how Green Lantern is supposed to be portrayed but HBO rejected it in favour of this gritty grounded 24 inspired rubbish. Dc sucks And put some respect on Hal Jordan’s name. Names being dragged through the dirt in the show

DeeJayyy

That wasn’t the point tho. My point was that I don’t think the show was being woke or trying to be woke I think it was just being historically accurate. If you watched that scene 10 years ago your first thought wouldn’t have been that it’s trying to be woke it would’ve been like ok yeah that makes sense.

Gurren

I mean John Stewart has always been this boring, flat, emotionless, 2d character Idk what you are expecting from him. At least that’s how he was in the cartoon JLA show

Jodys Corner

Js had swag and cracked jokes in the JL animated series. "Its a damn good bubble"

Jodys Corner

A Black woman wrote this episode from a black womans point of view. She accomplished her goal. You trippin if you can't see this was intentional.

DeeJayyy

Maybe it was. It probably was. But to me it makes complete sense and doesn’t scream woke to me

Jonathan Blaze

Best episode of the first 3. I'd give that guardian a beat down, she was sexy af. Hope they can keep this momentum moving forward. B+ episode.

Jodys Corner

Valid points. As a Lanterns series, this thing fails, but the drama helps a lot. The insanity helps too! It's almost "so bad, it's good"

Jodys Corner

Facts! This series was made because the budget was stripped away! James fauled with Suoerman and Supergirl. They delayed Lanterns to release this? Just try to imagine what the original show looked like without the reshoots. BRUH!

tyler a watson

Nah in the cartoon he was cool and one of the most likable black superheroes on tv at the time.. dude had swag and was getting all the girls..
