yes warren g is definitely better than coolio.. i grew up with hip hop and personally i think coolio was a 1 hit wonder. when i was younger i liked fantastic voyage more than gangsters paradise but i feel like no one really knew that song.

Ana

Yaaay glad these are back. I'm actually watching these for the first time with y'all. And it's so much better. Like I seen a few episodes but never watched fully through 💜💜

Kia Lee Hawkins

Kookie is one of Jungkook's many nicknames lol

Ana

Lmaooo y'all is hilarious 😂😂just the in between convos. The oxi clean part 😂😂😂

Jaxyn

Jody you are hilarious 😂 I was laughing out loud when you kept repeating Jimin eating that food and I love your discussions, they are so entertaining.

Ana

I don't think Jimin is sad here. He actually still dress like that sometimes. I think it was just because Jimin's role in the group was a bad boy when he's actually very nice. Jimin loves hip hop he knew the group was gonna be hip hop when he started. I feel like you can apply being more feminine to all the guys. They're all more open then when they were back then. But this was early days for them. And when their music changed from being a hip hop group they all changed as they got older and knew that they weren't really those tough hip hop guys. People change and mature as they get they get older. These vids jimin was only 18 they were all very young. They're all about 30 now so they aged with the times

Ana

Also when Jhope mention all 7 was rappers he meant other guys who were apart the group that didn't make the final cut and before they found the other members. Supreme boi who you'll hear in the cyphers and some of the rap line songs was gonna be a member of BTS but that didn't work out. But now he's one of BTS mains producers

Ana

You're right Jin did not feel confident because remember they found him on the street. He had no intentions of becoming a singer or dancer. All the other members had wanted to do that. He was going to be an actor in big hit but they felt that he was needed for BTS

WittyRD

Great reaction! Glad to see ur liking AHL. The LA spot really was that dirty lol it wasn’t staged. They were in LA a couple weeks and were filming stuff for the show while also staying up very late producing and recording their album “Dark & Wild” so you can imagine how messy an airbnb type place would get after a week with that many young men. V was indeed raised by his grandmother because his parents worked away from the farm to support them. Like many cultures if the parents are working long hours or away from home the grandparents will raise the children. It’s not like there’s a neglect/animosity situation to why he was raised by his grandma. I can only assume that having his dad’s support for his dreams means so much because he knows how much sacrifice went into raising him from his whole family. The connection to his grandmother is often highlighted by ARMY because we all saw when it happened, how deeply he was hurt by her passing and how he matured afterwards. Here’s a nice article that shows just how close he is to his dad and how much he admires him. It has all the clips and receipts too, everything from his own mouth. https://www.koreaboo.com/lists/bts-v-dad-father-facts-things-know-parents/

I have teenage boys and I can tell you when I get sick... our place gets... *sigh*... haha... they barely had time to sleep. Back then they had crazy schedules.

yvonne fortson

I switch up sometimes between powder and liquid but mostly use liquid. Every now and then I’ll get powder

April Forgue

RM did a solo mv working with Warren G after American Hustle life called P.D.D. please don't die you should check it out.

yvonne fortson

Jody I think you broke the rewind button on Jimin lol

yvonne fortson

V said before that his grandma raised him for bout 14 years, his parents was always in his life they just was always away working so he was mostly with his grandma. He still saw and had a relationship with his parents

Ana

Yeah V has been away from his family for so long that he says he hardly knows his younger siblings much

Jodys Corner

Awesome! So glad we can have entertaining discussions here that you actually like!

Jodys Corner

Oh, this must be EXTRA fun for you! Its like were experiencing this together!

Ana

So I finally finished I had to do things and take breaks 😩😩😂😂 but those weren't coolio goons. They were hired outside of him. And yes I love Eman noticing RM and Jimin's relationship they're so slept on as a duo. RM said he is very close to Jimin because they are into a lot of the same things and he can talk deeply with him

Ana

Yeah it is extra fun cuz y'all add to the funny so much more 💜💜

.

V used to always do those type of rap-talk parts in their older music. Probably bcs his voice is deep. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the way Jhope raps. His cadence is everything and you can really tell he’s a dancer the way he flows his lyrics.

VancityGal

Hey Jody, I’m sorry man. I didn’t mean to lead you to think that V’s parents didn’t care about him and just left him with the grandma. I was just trying to emphasize what an important figure she was in his life and how her death really affected him. V really loves all his family and I would say he is the member that talks most about his love for them. He always thinks of them first. It’s very sweet. He especially idolizes his father. One time he was asked what his life motto was and another member answered for him saying, “My father is my life.” I know his parents would drive hours just to see him for 30 mins and would bring food for him to share with the members.

VancityGal

You’re very right about Jin. Jin was very insecure in the beginning. He was the oldest but at the same time had the least amount of experience. I give him so much credit for putting his ego aside to just work his ass off to improve. Jin brings a lot to the team but he always felt he could never reach the level of his brothers. My favorite Jin song is called Awake and is about his insecurities and how he pushed them aside to stay with his brothers and keep striving. IMO the WWH thing stems from a little bit of insecurity of thinking the main thing he has to offer is his looks. He’s extremely funny. I think he makes a joke out of it to beat skeptics to the punch. You haven’t seen it yet but Jin has an amazing voice that really comes through in his solo songs.

Melissa Torres

I think you are starting to see why they are loved so much by so many🥰

V was raised in the countryside by his grandma because both of his parents were still young and were busy working in big cities. (E.g. I know his dad worked in a clothing market, and had to commute to a big city everyday to transport clothes). But his parents were still in his life. I think it's more common in Korea to let grandparents raise your child. If asked if V changed because a relative passed away, then we answered yes he lost his grandma who meant a lot to him. (Although I don't think it's the main thing that changed him). But, to V his father also means a lot to him. He's the one who got V into jazz music and his style. The BTS boys joke around often saying "your father is your life".

Lief

Super great that you're watching this, I don't like watching it back (because sometimes it's just cringe) but I do think it gives a lot of insight into the beginning of the boys. Especially this episode was great, and I agree that Warren G was just very nice.

Lief

Also to clear up, none of the boys come from poor families. Just average, they all had parents who had to work hard to get by. But being poor is something else. Some examples of why people would think they were poor:

Lief

Jin and V's families come from farming (grandparents/uncles). I get why people think farmers are poor, but I personally think farmers can sustain their live well.

Lief

SUGA had a period where he was very broke. It was when he started doing music in his hometown, going around to be an engineer and producer in studios. And he'd get ripped off by the studios, getting paid next to nothing. But his parents were not poor. They just didn't support him doing music.

Lief

When J-Hope wanted to start dancing, there came a lot of costs for the dance crew and competitions. So his mother took a new job in Japan to cover all of the expenses.

Lief

When the boys came together as trainees, they indeed depended on the company and their parents to cover their living expenses. They lived with the bare minimum for a while, because the company didn't have any money. Only in 2015 is when BTS and BigHit started making good revenue.

Lief

Sorry for this spam. I just hope to contribute to get things clear around here. But people take all these examples and then conclude the BTS boys came from poor families. But they were your average working-class families, living in normal neighborhoods. People say SUGA came from the Korean hood, but that's not true either.

WittyRD

Agreed aside from Tony and Nate; Warren G was my fave part of this series.

WittyRD

I also want to add since I’m learning Korean at the moment. Most Korean names have 2-3 syllables, his name is 정(jung) 국(kook). The K sound in his comes from Korean letter “ㄱ“ which has a soft g/k sound. In Korean it’s not a hard K sound in the middle of a name/word but at the at the end of his name it’s a bit more pronounced K sound. In English we see both K’s and pronounce them equally but in Korean its more like “ junGook”

Jodys Corner

"My father is my life" is deeeep. As a father, it feels good to see a boy love his father so much and give him his flowers. Too many absentee fathers in our society, so its nice to know that V has tgat strong connection to his dad and grandparent. To his whole family, really.

Linda C.

I think I saw something where Jung Kook decided to stop correcting people with his name and just say Jung Kook, accepting it as a stage name so that it would be easier for international fans to pronounce. In early interviews he pronounced it the correct way. There was also a time they tried to say their names the American way which was cute and awkward, like when Jimin introduced himself as Jimin Park instead of Park Jimin, last name first.

Jessie

Taehyung has a strong bond with his family

Jessie

He was raised by his grandmother coz his parents are working. He was devastated when his grandmother died. He looks up to his dad a lot.

Galiaa

I know you will understand and love suga when you know about him .. he don’t show affectio but he cares about the members alot .I love suga alot 😔💜

Bernadett

I'm late watching this, but just wanted you to know something about their names. Jungkook is indeed pronounced as 'gook' in Korean. When he says his own name or the members say it, they say 'jungook'. But it is written with a K in the romanized version, so his nicknames come as kookie or JK (he uses it too), Jimin says JK a lot as well, the English way. They are ok with their names being pronounced 'incorrectly', we are not all Koreans and they kindly understand it. Park Jimin is actually pronounced 'baak' in Korean - even Koreans don't know why it is romanized as Park... And Koreans don't pronounce the sound 'v' well, it's like 'bwi', so I adore when they (especially Jin and Jimin) say 'lob' instead of 'love' in some songs. :)
