Maybe the most heartbreaking part of this ep imo...the dichotemy between what Marlowe imagines Hitch's morning looks like as he's about to die (sleeping in) vs. what we see her morning actually looked like at 13:46 (up early, looking out the window, wondering when he's going to come back). "Why am I...at a time like this...?" Because you loved her you idiot 😭

Dr. Sophie I understand why you want Armin back, but to bring him back as a titan is not doing justice to his character. Remember how shook up Armin was killing just one person for the first time in order to save Jean on the wagon. If Armin is brought back as a Titan how big of a human killer will Armin become in a war beyond the walls? Making Armin kill hundreds if not thousands of people as a Titan would really be like turning him into a mass killer like Darth Vader. Let Armin rest as an angel not bring him back as a devil.

Oh, I know - but we gotta keep traditions of playing dumb. I was more just pointing out that Isayama is a master in subverting expectations in multiple ways while respecting character arcs. There are layers to his writing that could be enjoyed even by the most perceptive/literate of his readers/viewers.

There is a reason for why the battle to retake Shiganshina is so critically acclaimed - the emotions and pain are palpable. Even with full context of the show it's hard to ignore the incredible effort made to have this battle be one for the ages. I have a lot of respect for you for being comparatively more open-minded about Reiner and Bert these past few episodes. By the way, by saying you're "up to 3x20", does that mean that you've watched that episode? Can't wait to see that one

Marlo... He was so brave until the very end, and after Erwin dies, he becomes the leader of the suicide scout troop and shouts Susume! so they don't look back and gallop forward! For such a small amount of screen time he makes you sympathize with him and respect him.

Poor Armin. It's not that he wasn't confident. He was just trying to deceive Eren, because if Eren knew he was willing to die, Eren wouldn't have gone along with the plan. Armin's heroism lies not only in the act of his death in battle, or the succesful plan to deceive the almighty Colossal Titan, but even more in his willingness to deceive his best friend, for the first time ever. And for the last time, since he is completely and utterly dead: D-E-D, dead. (Yes, I know 3x20 and such, but it's more fun to keep up the game)

When the show is over, I'd like to see you review this outro again, but also probably all of the outros for the rest of this season, haha, but especially this one and whatever s3e19/20's outros. Every episode of s3 part 2 is such a heavy hitter, holy shit.

fwiw I actually have no idea how you have the willpower not to binge watch the whole season in a day lmfao once you hit s3e16 and onwards. The only reason I didn't was because I watched it live 6 years ago hahaha. NOTE: I'm sure you know this already, but after season 3, there's a lot of changes to the show. Don't jump into season 4 immediately, although I guess you have Lost Girls to do, anyways (my favorite batch of OVAs!). I think you will need more time to process season 3 before jumping into season 4, which is honestly it's whole own thing in some sense. The animators changed (they are better than Wit Studio after season 4 part 2, imo), a new musical composer gets added alongside the current one to add new songs (he's amazing), and obviously there's a lot that has to change with the show now. Some people love season 4, some people hate it. The end of the show though is my personal favorite stretch of it all, but it was the hardest stretch of the show for me to watch, personally, haha.

I've watched Part 1 & 2 of the Lost Girl OVA so just Part 3 I need to watch 😊 I'll be watching that alongside the last 2 episodes of AOT S3 and then I'll have a week before I watch S4!

Grisha Is just simply lying about losing his memories. The first thing he said to Keith Shadis is something like "Why are you exploring outside the walls?" 1) He knows that the walls exist 2) That they should not be going outside of it 3) He remembers he's a doctor (and was able to cure a plague) 4) HIS GOAL WAS TO GO AFTER THE FOUNDING TITAN! I'm not trying to dog on you just trying to say don't take information at face value in this series. Just have in the back of your head "Does this person have a reason to lie?" I love your content keep up the good work!

Your outro was well articulated, Sophie. You poured your heart out. By the way, I’m also watching a YT reaction on AoT that is by a therapist. He felt traumatized right from Ep1 but very much so at as early as Ep6 if I remember it right. 😂 I guess no one can help us from the trauma of AoT. 🤣

I still remember when this manga chapter came out. I was so shocked and pained and traumatized with what happened to Armin. I felt like I lost a cat.. but no, he was my baby!! 😭😭 So I feel you so much, Sophie.

Since you are ahead and know Armin will be "reborn", I will just say what I thought at the time he was "reborn". Armin might be alive, but might a part of him have died the day he ate a people he once deemed a friend? Saying Armin didn't die in this episode might not be entirely true. Is coming back alive enough to say one survived war? S class tier animation, music and story, but it pains so much. Cried with you today, rewatching these scenes. Took me back. Stay strong Sophie*

I just love how the powersystem keeps working on its own fudnamental logic rather than what one might expect from a fantasy powersystem, together with the kinds of anatomical details and teh choice of spinal fluid rather than blood etc that makes it feel more like far fetched scifi than fantasy in a way

I'd suspected a familial connection the first time we saw Zeke due to the ears and the similar glasses to Grisha. I'd mentioned it in passing back in S2 but hadn't dwelled on it until we saw that Grisha wasn't from the walls. Then the fact that Grisha is from Beyond The Wall means that he likely had a life before coming here and from that you can easily make the deduction that he has child. The mention of 'father' means that it has to be someone significant and also someone we have met. Purely by logical deduction as someone whose from outside the walls and Zeke's obsession with the walls = Grisha. Not to mention there's an overlay in one of these episodes [can't remember which one specifically] where Grisha's memory flashes and it cuts back to Zeke. The familial resemblance is striking and confirms it all the more. I've finished S3 so I know that Zeke is Grisha's son with Dina :) So not a spoiler.
