Another fuckin unreal episode, thorfinn is really clever when killing people, efficient almost. He sliced that guys fingers off to get the sword cause he can't cut off someone's head with a knife. And it's a series of confliction for me . He looks so cool doing it but I just want him to stop an go home

And bjorns little grin at the end , who says monster can't be adorable sometimes . It was WIT studios that did first 3 seasons of AOT that made this. So battle are something they're good at

Don't worry Sophie, we all hated the frog leader man

Looking at these episodes makes me think whether Askeladd is the real protagonist now 😅 definitely a love-hate relationship. He's despicable but so damn charismatic!

This is where the series begins in the manga. Episodes 1-4 are told to us in a flashback a little later and 5-6 are actually anime only except the part from last episode with the English mother and daughter helping Thorfinn. I honestly don't know which start I prefer they both do a fantastic job setting up everything. Also that French nobleman is a reference to Jabba the Hutt in both name and appearance. His name is Jabbathe 😅

Did they really portray the French leader as a frog?🐸 lol!

🏃💨 When Thorfinn started running and you mentioned Naruto, I had no idea you knew that character haha. And now that I think about it, Thorfinn does have Sasuke-like vibes with his voice and attitude as well. 🗺️⛵🏰 The entire story of Vinland Saga is based on real history. Every character truly existed in the past. Every event actually happened. The author used his imagination to connect the dots, though. For instance, Normanni refers to the Normans. The Normans were Vikings. William the Conqueror was part Viking, and Normandy was his land, so it was filled with Vikings. In French, Norman essentially means Viking. Normanni is likely the name of the Celtic tribe that inhabited that area of France centuries ago. It’s probably the Roman/Celtic term for them, but the Romans had been gone for a thousand years by this point in history. ⚔️🛡️ 🏹 🗡️ I believe this episode captures the essence of the Vikings; they always have this aura of laughter and are unafraid of death because they are truly devoted. Dying as a warrior and going to Valhalla under Odin, where they drink, eat, and prepare forever for Ragnarok to return and fight again, is their ultimate joy.

He reminds a little Tywin Lannister from Game of Throne who was also despicable but so charismatic with his long-term, ruthless political and military planning.

I thought it was a reference to frogs in relation to the popularity of eating frog legs in France and how it's become a stereotypical nickname for the French to be called 'frogs' haha!

V late comment, but doing so anyway! I found your perspective on the Thorfinn vs Askeladd dynamic so interesting and explained so well. I love how you mentioned Askeladd's admiration and respect for Thorfinn as a reason that he is stalling. I wondered whether Askeladd accepted that Thorfinn deserves a chance to avenge Thors as far back as he saw Thorfinn's rage at 6yo. Askeladd also clearly had respect for Thors, understanding his position/philosophy immediately, even though he was on a different path.
