"Maomaos at the clinic " *immediately leaves You're not slick brother

Finally another reactor who’s going to start reading the LNs, they’re really good and the anime is a faithful adaptation of them, there are some very specific differences that you’ll notice when you read them! I liked this second season even more than the first, and knowing you I think you’ll appreciate it just as much. This second season has more depth than it looks at first glance.

I didn't expect you to react so quickly to season 2 but here we are, let's do this haha 🍿

Seasons one and two cover the first four light novels so two per season. Easy to remember. 👍

Sebas Tian

Ah finally, the real protagonist, Mao Mao Jr.

Same started reading the light novels in the middle of season 1 itself. I couldn’t even wait for the first season to end 😂 by the time season 1 ended I had read all the volumes out at that time (I think it was either 9 or 10). Right now I am eagerly waiting for vol 16. If it releases sometime next year that will keep me busy till anime season 3 😆

First, I apologize for the wall of text. I never start these expecting to write so much. 2:28 That whole lack of clarity was so brilliant on the author's part. As the viewer, we only know what Maomao tells us, and Maomao isn't this standard anime character that likes to spew every bit of detail about her life and history. We learn what's important about her when the reason needs be. For example, Maomao didn't bother thinking about how Pairin was her wetnurse when we first met her, why would she think about that for no reason? Bringing it up when what's-his-face wanted to pursue Pairin felt so natural for the story. - I do want to apologize, I keep saying Leoman, but it's Luoman. I think I've seen both used for his name, not sure. - I'm loving these predictions. Not going to confirm or deny any of them. - IMHO, I think the moment Maomao went from "toy" to "love interest" was when Jinshi saw her face without freckles. He was smitten by her beauty by that moment, and seeing her dressed up after purchasing her just solidified his interested, whether he knows it or not. 16:44 Yeah, Fangxien's mind is completely shot. She doesn't even seem to remember Maomao, or is even able to speak any more. I doubt she can even remember the hatred she had built against Lakan for "abandoning" her. Lakan offering to play with her probably brought her back to those blissful moments, when the two longingly played games with each other. I made a comment about how Lakan was an expertly written villain. The same was true for Lehua. We thought she was this prude woman, but she turned out to be this really kind and caring person misguided by grief and fear. 36:33 I'll never understand people who hate cats. They're so adorable and lovable. My cat was once a stray kitten, but has become the most lovable cat I've ever had. She gets upset if she can't snuggle up with my in bed at night, and throws a tantrum any time I leave the house. 41:01 If you watch the episode again, you'll notice that the serving girl appeared (I think) two other times in the background. A little bonus for people who rewatch the episode. Now that you have finished season 1, have you ever watched the openings? The second one is really beautifully animated.

Ah I really love season 2 and I'm so excited to see your reaction to it!

I can't wait for you to read the light novels, since, of course, it is more descriptive than the anime because of the medium. (Not comparing, I love the anime, mangas, and light novels for different reasons). Just a question: will you be posting your thoughts about it here? I'd really love to know what you think about it!! Especially with the details that were not as fleshed out in the show.

Ryuuji Gremory

You probably already have the information (maybe you even mentioned it and I overheard it), but just in case you don't, the anime currently adapts just the first 4 volumes of the Light Novel, each Volume having been turned into a full cour/12 episodes of the anime. Spelling it out again we are really lucky with the anime production that they really dedicate that much time for each volume.

season 2, let's goo! I can't wait to hear your analyses and thought about this season too :) And the light novels are amazing, I have only read until about half series 1 - it is really fun to see the differences.

Anthony Willetts

Once you've finished with this season (yes I know you just started, so it would be a while away) and are waiting for season 3, I would like suggest To Your Eternity, I think it's another show you'd really like, and the 3rd season for that just started.

Aaaa great decision to read the LNs after. 👍🏼 I'm so happy we're starting this season right away 🥹 so many new happenings that I'm excited for you to see 💖

When you mentioned that the (high) consorts are the closest to take out the Emperor - YES THANK YOU. And here comes my tinhat theory: that Gyokuyo is the ultimate villain of the story. Why was she so eager to have MaoMao as a lady in waiting? Or get Lingli poison lessons here apart from her daughter benefitting from it? She has ulterior motives!!!! Did everyone forget that few seconds interaction in episode 1 (or maybe beginning of episode 2) between her and Hongniang where they were all shifty and she said ‘An apothecary? She could be useful.’ ‘yes.’ BECAUSE I DID NOT. I did not forget and I will die on this hill that Gyokuyo is more than she seems and will be revealed as a mastermind playing the long game to kill the Emperor. Why? I have absolutely no clue but I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL. 😤
