I think the idea re: the warding mask is that the one strike that Tanjiro did take which threw him into the tree would have killed Tanjiro if not for the mask. It shattered because it's spell was depleted. After all the mask didn't impact the tree so there was no reason for it to break otherwise.

So the art style of the blade effects was one of the things that really drew me to this show, and I ended up looking into it myself. The art style is called Ukiyo-e, which was actually created using woodblock prints. An artist would draw the design on the blocks, a carver would then carve away everything except for the lines, and the printer would finally apply different colored inks to the blocks and press them on to paper. From what I understand, because they were prints they could be mass produced and became very popular for common people to purchase, and the prints were also released in sets. Because of this, they were the first collectibles Japan ever made, they were essentially like the OG Pokemon cards. Also because they were so cheap, they were used as packing material when Japan started shipping porcelain to Europe. European artists loved the style, and influenced artists into a Japanese inspired art style called Japonisme. One such artist that was heavily influenced, was Vincent van Gogh, and you can see the influences in some of his paintings, especially the landscapes!

OMG! When you started talking about your research dealing with masculinity and repressing/showing emotions, I lit up like a light bulb. You are going to have a field day with this anime. I think every reactor I've seen has been creeped out by the wisteria twins, and I can't figure out why. I thought it was a great character design.🤔

When you were wondering how old Tanjiro and the other children at the final selection were, I realized I'd also forgotten, so I double checked. Tanjiro was 13 when the series started, and is now 15 after his 2 years of training

Once again, I really love your thoughtful discussions about the characters! Many people regard S1 to be the “weakest” due to lack of mind-blowing action scenes so it’s nice to see you appreciate the world-building and Tanjiro’s character growth! From my understanding, when Urokodaki trapped the demon 46 years ago, it wasn’t as strong as it is now so I think the Demon Slayer Corps thought that the participants in the Final Selection exam would be able to defeat it. Unfortunately, no one was able to defeat until now so that’s why it got stronger.

I think there's just an eerie vibe with how in sync they are haha! It's like uncanny valley. They're an amazing character design but there's something unsettling haha! I love how people on YouTube were like "you'll have nothing to say about Demon Slayer it's too simplistic" and all 4 of my videos I've had so much to talk about haha!!

Honestly wasn’t a fan of Demon Slayer when I read a huge chunk of the manga years ago, but what you’ve said about deconstructing masculine stereotypes is seriously endearing it to me. It irks me how so many cultures abandon parenting emotional regulation and its development in boys.

Tanjiro Best Boy. I’ll say it again too 😂 yeah I love his character so much. The way he shows empathy and respect for the death of demons, yet he WILL still carry out his duty and kill them because he needs to. About that morphed demon, like Urukodaki had said, the more demons eat people, the stronger they get. Since it has eaten about 50 people over 50 years it has gotten stronger, and harder to kill over time. Likely when he first captured it, it may not have been like this. But also, maybe you’ll learn more later. Each demon has different designs and I must say this one is NOT a favorite, no thank you 😂 Ah Zenitsu name drop!! Can’t wait for you to meet him ✨ he is. A character.
