This arc has been amazing so far! I really love Genau and what his character represents as our party travels further in the North. I think his and Stark’s character development goes hand-in-hand because Stark has begun to understand why people stay and fight despite it being so dangerous. I agree with your point about the action scenes being secondary to the story and character developments. It makes Frieren stands out.

On flying magic, it's mentioned in the episode where the flying monster grabs the caravan and brings it into the sky. Stark asks why Frieren can't just fly the caravan and the whole group down to safety. Frieren explains that the flying spell is copied from demons, but because humanity doesn't actually understand the principles behind the spell, she's not able to make other objects fly for more than brief periods of time. Sidenote: I really love how magic is portrayed in Frieren. It's just a special sort of science/technology that advances with time, research, and collective effort.

I like how Frieren just tells Fern to handle it, cause she wants to give her the experience. She probably thinks and knows it’ll end too fast if she handled it herself 😂 Very excited for next week - I have read the manga but can’t remember anything of this arc so it feels completely new to me. Refraining myself from going back and reading the manga.

8:38 not only personal beef that Revolte killed his partner, but probably a bit of guilt, especially in the present, that if he had killed Revolte back then, his village wouldn’t have suffered as it did 😞

Starks reason for staying with Genau impressed me so much. Despite Genau being so unemotional Stark was able to realize that if something attacked here Genau would have no intention of retreating.

16:55 if you caught this also and mentioned it later, I just want to say this before I forget. It sounded weird when I watched it the first time as well but I didn’t stop and think about it. The little girl says 3 mages and a warrior, but there are 4 mages….was that a typo in the English subs? Or they can’t detect one of them?

28:15 all the women in this show (at least Methode and Fern so far) don’t allow people they are with to eat at night 😂 I kinda get that as I don’t like eating late at night either, except when I come home late and then for some reason I want a snack. Though as I’m getting older I regret eating late 😖 I love that you connected Ganau’s test to his ability! I didn’t catch or connect that. That was a great observation - I love how everything in this show is very deliberate. And the animation of the fights and action are just chef’s kiss

I loved this episode! From the added context to the demon designs (and I agree that child one is too adorable) to the fun banter with Frieren's group to Stark being Stark to Genau's badassery! Every panel was just A+. So excited for the next one!

Yeah it's either a typo OR alluding to someone else being in the area that we haven't seen yet! >.> OR they're alluding to Fern because we know she's very difficult to perceive!

I think it's a typo in the subs T-T I hear the little demons saying "four mages and one warrior". I still think it would be really cool if they couldn't detect Fern uwu.

I think it's because Frieren is always suppressing her Mana so she only looks like an "above average mage" while Genau, Methode and Fern are First Class Mages and exuding the mana as such. We know that Fern can hide her Mana really well but I don't think she keeps doing that 24/7 the way Frieren does.
