Oh wow, never been so early

Axel

I am trying to watch this with you because I did stop watching it on my own a long time ago. But I still liked it fairly well at this point. Now I do have a tendency to get tired of all action animes but the art on this show is great and it has some other interesting things. I still got tired of it for a couple of reasons. I'm curious how you'll react and if I'll maybe have a different take this time.

I have always agreed with what you said that a story doesn’t have to be complicated to be good. Something that Demon Slayer does very well is tell a story thru a fight. You will love it when we get to THAT episode. I wont tell you which one but there is an episode of DS that broke the internet and made the author cry. You’ll know it when you get to it.

Ohhh. It was interesting to listen to your perspective on anti-intellectualism, analysis of stories, finding meaning in subtext and engaging with the plot. As to why people find it mid or boring, that will be a very loooooong conversation. I mean, it will involve discussing topics like anime subcultures, popular anime story tropes, narrative structures, character writing, world-building, etc., and comparing and contrasting how Demon Slayer handles these aspects differently or similarly to other pop animes. If you look at DS on its own merit, it can be a good experience. But if you have seen 50 anime before this, perhaps a member of the audience would look at how DS subverts what came before it and may not feel as intrigued by it. Although I do agree that simple stories can be very enjoyable, and the simplicity of DS, imo, is not a flaw but its strength. I look forward to your opinions on this story.

🐱🆚️🦁 Tanjiro facing Muzan is totally a fair fight *cough* *cough*. It's like, a fluffy little kitten trying to take down the king of the jungle. It's not like Muzan has a slight advantage or anything. No, no, Tanjiro's got this. He's practically Muzan's equal... in cuteness, maybe.

From your discussion about enjoying different types of stories and the rise of anti-intellectualism, I think you’ll enjoy a lot of slice-of-life/character-focused anime. I have tons of recommendations but I’ll save that for later haha. But yeah, you hit the nail on the head. A lot of the hate on this series is because of its popularity and how a lot of people think this series didn’t deserve its popularity compared to others. It’s all subjective and based on preferences in my opinion. Really enjoyed your discussion on Muzan and Tamayo. I’m excited to you to know more about them as the series progresses!

I would say most of the movies and books I return to are all simple stories. I think there's always a place for those! It did not even occur to me that the city-dwellers wouldn't believe in demons anymore like the rural folks do! What a great observation that adds richness to the world! I thought they didn't realize the guy had turned into a demon! 😅

I loved your rant against snobbery. It reminded me of what Mickey Spillane said when his books were criticized as being lowbrow: "There are more salted peanuts consumed than caviar".🥜😋

Yeah, I knew you’d read past all the negative comments and would love this show. You are exactly the type of person that would see value in all the things Demon Slayer gives us. So, so appreciative you’re watching this show, and enjoying it!

I'm always sceptical and it only makes me want to watch it more when there's some negativity cause I wanna make the assessment for myself haha!!
