I think you are right on the money that the storytelling in Chainsaw Man is a lot deeper than the overt crassness seems to imply at face value. In my view there is clear dramatic irony in the design of the leech devil - i.e. a phallus adorned with 6 tits. It takes the piss out of Denji's goals as he consciously understands them (I think he really believes, that he just wants cop a feel) are the only way he really can understand given his life so far, but underneath there probably lies a much more innocent desire for human connection.

Aki puts on a tough guy act but shows that he cares through his actions: requesting a vet for Meowy, saving Denji and Power from being accused of disobedience, cutting the fruit for Denji, cooking for his 2 housemates. He's sweet and kind deep inside 😭

This show is so beautiful, love the little touches that make it seem like some shots are being filmed with a real camera like when Aki's reflection begins in focus then becomes blurred so we can focus on Makima in the foreground. And that whole montage of Aki's morning routine is wholly anime original, the show is full of these amazing touches where they go the extra mile like that and prove to me that the folks making this show love and deeply understand the source material. Notable that Denji straight up could have killed that one civillian in the car he threw. It makes sense why Aki would say Denji has no idea the difference between right and wrong, but it's cool that you're seeing that there's more under the surface. Failing to trust that there actually is more under the surfase is why most people fall off right around here. If you're not seeing subtext or trust that there's even subtext to look for you write off denji as a one dimensional gooner protag and figure csm probably just has too much meaningless/tasteless fanservice and fall off right here at about ep 3-5.

I think it's also relevant that Denji challenged Leech to his "Dream Battle" to prove that his dream of boobs is worth fighting for... and very quickly loses. Almost like a wink to the audience from Fujimoto that he's self aware that thematically Denji's dream isn't being positioned by the narrative thematically as like, an amazing dream lol

I love how Denji is staring up at power sitting on the toilet and calls her an angel, while she literally has devil horns coming out of her head😂, can’t wait to see you react to the next episode!
