Ah great episode to see pop on the notifications

Charlie baker

Wont be long till s2, heads up eps 2-7 of season 2 is the cut and redited chunks from the mugen train movie. They add some scenes here and there to pace it more like seperate episodes but you might poll to see if the patrons want to see the show recut of the movie or the movie itself split up into chunks. At the time most fans just watched the movie, ep 1 of s2 then just waited till the 2nd part of season 2 dropped

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I won't lie I'm still really confused by how it all works. Some comments on YT have said Mugan Train then 2 x 1 and then straight to S3?!

Charlie baker

Nah s2 is two parts, 1-7 is mugen train and the rest of the season us the entertainment district arc. The mugen train movie came before s2 aired, s2 ep 1 is a new episode that shows what happens right before the movie starts, s2 ep 2-7 are edited sections of the mugen train movie with added stuff to make them pace more like normal episodes. So it would be s2 ep 1 --> Mugen Train Movie --> s2 ep 8 and its just normal watch order till after s4 which is where the new movie and future 2 movies will finish the story as part of a movie trilogy Let me know if its still hard to follow. Though like i said you may do a poll to see if people want you to watch s2 fully or jump into the mugen train movie for part of the season since its how people generally watched it at the time

I'm in the camp of watching the movie and then episode 1 of S2. I think you get more out of it in that order, however, there's really no wrong way to watch the story. I just suppose it matters if you prefer to watch it in chronological order for the story (S2 Ep. 1 - Mugen Train Movie/Arc - S2 Ep.8 ->, or if you prefer to watch it in release order (Mugen Train movie - S2 Ep. 1 -> S2 Ep. 8).

omg I cried with you haha, I just absolutely love Zenitsu and I also love Armin so it makes sense 😭

Another amazing react! I love Zenitsu so much and empathise so much with him. As someone with chronic anxiety, he always felt really relatable to me. His over-the-top reactions always echoed to what I feel on the inside and I think he is more chonically anxious than just fearful. The way he clutch the tree, trying to force his body to move, always break my heart. It really shows how crippling anxiety can be! Anyway, thank you for this wonderful reaction and I can't wait to see ep18 tomorrow <3

I'm probably reading into this too much - but I feel like Zenitsu's seeking out relationships does resemble a trauma response to him being manipulated by his fiancé. The crossroads of his life changing and becoming a demonslayer was after he was made destitute by his fiancé leaving with all his money and her new partner. When he has to face the realities of being a demonslayer that terrifies him to his core - he returns to that crossroads as an alternative "If things worked out with my fiancé, I wouldn't be here." "If someone loved me, I wouldn't be here.". When we first meet him properly, he's not being perverse or sexual, trying to hook up with that girl - he's begging her to marry him. Feels like he just feels like that would fix things.

I watched the movie before S2 Ep. 1 and I'm really glad I did. I know most people say Ep. 1 has to be watched first because it is an intro to the movie, but I liked the way it hit harder seeing it after!

Buzzard

Fantastic reaction! I had a feeling Zenitsu's backstory would do a number on you. When you get to Episode 19 PLEASE watch the whole ED! Guaranteed no spoilers, just a lot of (happy) tears.😂

So unexpectedly happy that you addressed my question in a video! Made my day :) New question: how much should Zenitsu being taking responsibility for his behavior? I completely understand that he's young, he's very reasonably afraid of the situation he's in that he didn't choose, and he's already very hard on himself. But he does make it everyone else's problem, especially the girls that he meets. I'm not a Zenitsu fan at all, but I do get what you're saying in this video and I appreciate you sharing a perspective I hadnt considered. Still, I struggle with the whining (which I think is admirable to overcome if you consciously do so, but he does not in the most literal sense). Moreso though, I have a hard time dealing with him either harassing girls, or making it Tanjiro's responsibility to take care of him. Armin for comparison never wanted to feel like a burden, saying "i can stand on my own" when Eren tried to help him up after being beaten by bullies. He also worked hard to actively overcome his fear and act in spite of it. Zenitsu blames Tanjiro/Inosuke for not staying behind and putting in effort to take care of him and encourage him to move forward when others were in mortal danger. And he's not even aware of his actions or choices when it comes to facing it.

He's a kid. He's not going to think rationally or long term. If anything it's realistic to seek acceptance and be desperate for love if only to feel you have a purpose. It's anxiety around wanting to be accepted and fearing you never will be. He never wanted this life nor did he choose it so the whining makes sense but he does overcome it. He gets the job done. He proves that he can be powerful but it's about believing in himself which takes time. It's not a quick fix. We have to learn to love ourselves and he is on that journey. It's not uncommon to want to be loved and to try and make people love you to validate your feelings of worthlessness. As someone with anxiety and a chronic perfectionist - I relate to that need. I think we're being too harsh and expecting a teenager to behave like an adult. He's not blaming Tanjiro it's more his fear of being abandoned coming out. Again - very realistic behaviour.

Thank you all for breaking it down! It was really confusing! I think I'll do Mugen Train Movie - 2 x 1 and then to 2 x 8!

Wow, I'm so glad you pointed out the connection between Zenitsu and Armin! It's seriously insightful how they both struggle with self-doubt. They're always questioning if they're good enough and worrying about being a burden to their friends, which is something they have in common. And when Zenitsu says, 'I hate myself more than anyone else,' it totally reminds me of how Armin feels too. It really highlights their shared struggles with self-esteem and how that shapes their whole journey. AND SPEAKING OF ARMIN AND ZENITSU... I just had a HUGE realization! I think I have a thing for blondes! I mean, I'm totally attached to Armin, Zenitsu, and even Thorfinn! 👱🏻‍♂️💗 It's like a pattern I never noticed before haha.

I tend to have an opposing view and adore characters like Stark from Frieren and Zenitsu. They truly add so much value to any adventure. Even though they often find themselves scared, I think their journeys are incredibly important to the story. Watching them grow and evolve from their fears is just so inspiring! And let’s be honest, most of us would definitely be freaking out in a world filled with demons, right? That’s what makes them so relatable! They feel so much more accessible compared to the super calm heroes like Fern and Tanjiro. That's something you don't often see in protagonists.

I truly appreciate your discussion on Zenitsu and his character. It gave me a new perspective on him that I overlooked when I watched the show. This is why I enjoy rewatching shows with you because your reactions made me see things from a different perspective!

Wyld89

I can completely appreciate that perspective. I actually havent discussed Demon Slayer with too many people before, only watched it on my own, so this is really my first time hearing it from you and Sophie. I completely understand that being afraid is relatable, and having these fears and overcoming them is an important journey. I also get that he really wants to overcome it, and that he hates himself for who he is. That's heartbreaking, that deserves empathy, and that can really strike home with people. After watching this video and hearing Sophie talk about him, I went from purely finding him annoying and frustrating, to having more empathy/understanding for him, while also finding him annoying and frustrating. The first point I'm trying to make here is this: it can be both. He is only 15. He's in a constant, terrifying, life or death situation. He didnt want to be in it, he's struggling with mental health issues, he's too young to be dealing with this. All of that deserves care. But also, he is 15. It's not ok for him to harass a girl to marry him because he's scared and ignore what she's saying back to him. It's not OK to hide behind a 10 year old and tell that younger child to go first towards a demon. And it's not ok to blame his friends for not doing enough to help him when they have already done quite a lot. I'm not sure I'm OK with giving him a pass on these things, despite the scenario that lead him here. The second point I'm making is that the only scenario I think I agree he's overcoming his fear is when he protected Nezuko/the box from Inosuke (which is a fantastic moment for him). In basically all other scenarios, he has just screamed, cried, actually run away and/or then passed out. It's an "alter ego" that's showing growth, but the main personality isnt even aware of it. He's not consciously overcoming or even standing up to his fears, so to my mind, he's not actually growing. I actually love Armin from AoT, and I think these 2 points regarding how these characters manage their fear are the biggest differences between them.

Had to pause at 25:15 because the screen got all blurry for some reason T^T "And Tankjiro's gonna yell at you too" these sweet boys. You just don't see healthy dynamics like this enough

It honestly took me a long time to warm up to Zenitsu. I didn't understand why until I saw this episode. I'm a lot like him. I try and try to do things right and I feel like I'm mediocre at everything. I have such sel esteem issues that even though I have technically shown promise, even when I've gotten this far in life, as someone nearly 2 months into my emergency medicine residency, I always have the cemented thought that I don't do enough. I didn't get here through hard work, but because of luck. I luck myself out of every situation. There's nothing remarkable about me. I'm just some lucky person who doesn't deserve what I have. So many more people deserve what I've achieved a lot more than I do. But thay thought, that should impulse me to do better, instead paralyses me. It makes me dependent on the help of others, if only psychologically. So I see a lot of myself in Zenitsu. I see how sharp words stay deep in your mind. How they make you doubt and devalue every victory. How you stay with your friends because you depend on them and feel like only they can accept or tolerate you. So I warmed up to Zenitsu, and it felt like warming up to a much louder, much more extroverted version of myself.
